• Title: Trial-Use Standard for Wireless Access in
  Vehicular Environments (WAVE) - Architecture
• Status: New Standard Project
• Project scope: This standard describes the Wireless
  Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE/DSRC)
architecture and services necessary for multi- channel
DSRC/WAVE devices to communicate in a mobile
  vehicular environment.
• Project purpose: The purpose of this standard is to
describe the architecture of the DSRC/WAVE operations
currently represented by the family of IEEE 1609
  standards and IEEE P802.11p.

                Objectives of 1609.0
• Capture system-level material not appropriate
for any of the lower layer standards
     – Descriptive material
     – Requirements
     – Development, deployment and operational guidance
• Serve as introduction to, and context for, the
  WAVE standards family
• Provide information helpful to the success of the
  WAVE community

                Outline Development
• Leverage WAVE work done to date
     – W Fisher architecture doc
     – R Roebuck system-level PICS requirements
     – System descriptive material from 1609.3 et al.
     – Etc.
• IEEE 802 Overview and Architecture
  document as example

     Comments Received to Date
• Update Figure 1; add new figures better representing
1609 in context, including VII network diagram and
logical interfaces to VII network components
• Relate WAVE stack to OSI model
• Include VII network context in clause 4
• Incorporate registration (certificate, PSID) and
  certification info
• Make sure system-level requirements identified in the
PICS development process are captured; add PICS
• Include material on roadside to roadside
  communications
• Fix, document purpose, mistakenly copied from 1609.3
• Clarification of wording, etc.
