Winter Meeting
Mark your calendar for the PSNI Spring meeting, which is scheduled for Friday, April 29th at Swedish Home Care Services. Debby Ramundo is hosting the meeting. The meeting details will be available in April. The next PSNI meeting will be held on April 29. The place will be Swedish Home Services and the topic will be the issues and strategies of developing and supporting interdisciplinary documentation.
WINI Dates Tentatively Set Winter Meeting Minutes
Submitted by Cliff Solomon Karen Curtis started the Winter meeting of PSNI, held at Providence Everett Medical Center, at 5:30 pm with approximately 30 people in attendance. Everyone introduced themselves. Personal updates and announcements included a mention that Swedish is close to signing a contract with EPIC for the implementation of the Electronic Health Record and that there will be several positions to be filled once the contract is in place. An “election” was then held. Anne Scharnhorst was chosen to be the PSNI representative to CARING, Cliff Solomon and Ken Stigen volunteered to sever as meeting coordinators and Cherrayl Harrsch volunteered to be a recording secretary. The Main Topic of the evening was a presentation by Tracy Knott from PatientKeeper. Tracy’s presentation was entitled “Getting the Nurse Back to Nursing – How Physician Adoption of Mobile Healthcare Applications Impacts Patient Safety and Nursing Satisfaction”. PatientKeeper has developed a software solution that runs on a PDA that “provides an open, extensible infrastructure for integrating, managing, developing, and deploying mobile healthcare applications”. Tracy stated that the benefits of using the PatientKeeper product include a time savings for Nurses and increased satisfaction of doctors. Information on the product can be found at http://www.patientkeeper.com The Bellevue Community College / PSNI sponsored WINI is tentatively set for Sept 30 Oct 2 or October 7 - Oct 9. The final dates will be confirmed in the next few weeks but Lynn Bader reports it is looking like a go. What is WINI? WINI is a weekend immersion event developed by three informatics nurses now certified by the American Nurses Crendentialing Center (ANCC) in Nursing Informatics. It has been successfully conducted fourteen times at various sites around the country. It is much more than a review course. WINI follows the content outline for the ANCC Nursing Informatics Certification Examination. The success of the course was responsible, in part, for the creation of a US Government grant to fund nursing informatics courses for nurse educators. Workshop Benefit This workshop is an opportunity to examine the key concepts for nursing informatics. Throughout the event, there will be ample opportunity to network with faculty members and peers about nursing informatics issues. Learn about the challenges others face and the nursing informatics strategies they use to meet these challenges. Target Audience This conference is designed for nurses who want to expand or clarify their working knowledge of nursing informatics. Experienced informatics nurses will find this program helpful as they prepare for the ANCC Nursing Informatics Examination. New informatics nurses will understand the breadth of knowledge and skills expected of the role.
