Private Law Libraries Special Interest Section
Public Relations Committee 2007-2008
The Public Relations Committee was Co-Chaired by Julia Hughes and Holly Riccio and
committee members were Suzanne Castroman, Rochelle Cheifetz, Sue Johnson, Kim Martin,
Sara Paul, Liz Peoples, Laura Suttell and Tanya Whorton.
In preparation for the AALL Annual Meeting in Portland, the committee took on many
tasks, including the revision of the PLL brochure, the purchasing of new PLL promotional items
and the development of handouts and display items for the PLL tables at both CONELL and the
AALL Exhibit Hall.
After reviewing the old PLL brochure, it was decided to switch the focus of the brochure
from legal administrators and management to potential PLL members. Both the old and new
PLL brochures will be maintained in PDF on the PLL web site, since both contain valuable
information, but the new PLL brochure will be what is used going forward for marketing and
public relations purposes. The committee also purchased PLL-branded pens and hand sanitizer
to give out at the AALL Annual Meeting in Portland. The items that have been developed to use
at both CONELL and in the AALL Exhibit Hall include a new tri-fold display and handouts
listing incoming PLL Officers and Committee/Group Chairs. We will also be raffling off a gift
basket of “Made in Oregon” specialties and using the information collected from business cards
collected for the raffle to send PLL brochures to private law librarians that are not yet members
of the PLL-SIS.
Other activities that the committee took on this year included writing an article on
Professional Legal Management Week for PLL Perspectives and developing a “PR Profile”
questionnaire to use to highlight PLL members.
Activities that were developed this year but not fully realized include revamping and
revitalizing the Public Relations page on the PLL web site, writing a regular column for PLL
Perspectives, and having a “PR Profile” highlighting a new PLL member each month on the PLL
