 Lou joined the Wessex club committee in June 1979 completing over 29 years as an active committee member. Fred Cook and Cynthia
Lane were the Chairman and Secretary of that era. Lou has worked for Scottish & Southern Energy (SEB) for over 40 years and was a club
member all this time even before he came onto the committee.

 Lou joined the committee the same day as Mike Rogers and stayed on a few months after Mike resigned.

 Lou was the Wessex representative for the SEB depot at Hambridge Road for many years recruiting numerous new members from his
position as storekeeper. Spotting a new employee Lou would have them signed up before they knew what hit them.

 Lou has seen 3 different Wessex club premises from the old and new one at Oxford Road and obviously the current one at the Racecourse.

 People often forget that for around 2 years early in the new millennium the club were without premises and the committee along with Lou
met at the Lamb pub locating new premises and then negotiating terms and conditions with the racecourse.

 Also easily forgotten was the building works involved with the new main hall and snooker room and the refurbishment of the original bar
area and changing rooms. This involved almost weekly committee meetings as plans changed constantly. Lou feels particularly proud to
have been a major part of this massive achievement to ensure the future of the Wessex Club, when at times the future of the club looked in

 Lou is a man of many talents which include being a qualified aircraft and glider pilot. He also owns a 1960s Kawasaki 750cc Motorbike a
1914 Steam Ransome Mower and a Lister Static Steam Engine all of which he has restored himself and frequently used to display them at
Newbury and other shows. It would take too long to list all his other hobbies.

 However, committee meetings will not be the same without Lou’s sense of humour and keeping us all on our toes if Lou happened to
  disagree with us.

 On behalf of the committee and the members I would like to thank Lou for all his hard work over the years and hope he continues to be a
member for a long time to come.
