Q. What is the minimum age for overseas weddings?
A. The minimum age requirement varies by destination, but is commonly 18 years. See Legal Requirements on page 5.
Q. What documentation will I need?
Please see Legal Requirements on page 5 for a list of documents required, and when and how to present them.
Q. What special instructions are there for getting married on safari?
More and more couples are choosing to get married in unusual places. If you would like to get married on safari in
Kenya, please note the following:
If you choose a wedding whilst on safari in Kenya, you will need to visit the Registrar General’s Office at Sheria House,
with your original documents, before the wedding licence can be issued. Sheria House is open from 0830 hours to
1700 hours Monday – Friday except Kenyan public holidays*. (It is advised that the visit to Sheria House is early in the
morning to avoid queues which normally start around 1000 hours). After registration, you will need to be in the
country for 3 working days before your wedding can take place.
*Public holidays in Kenya are 1 January, 1 May, 1 June, 10 October, 20 October, 12 December, 25 December and 26
December. Easter and Idd holidays are also public holidays but the dates change.
If you choose to get married on safari, we would recommend a mid-morning to early afternoon wedding. A late
afternoon or evening wedding may incur additional costs as the registrar might have additional expenses.
Q. What do I need to consider if I am not British?
A. The wedding prices we quote are based on required documentation which are applicable for British citizens only. If
one or both of you are not British citizens, it is imperative that you check what specific requirements exist with your
own embassy and the local authorities. Please note that it may not be possible for non-UK citizens to get married in
East Africa.
