Gaston Gators Newsletter November 2008
Coaches Corner
Swimmers should always stretch and then warm-up. We stretch to lengthen our muscles and prepare them for work. Stretching does delay muscle growth but helps the muscle groups receive more work. Junior and Seniors have been given some yoga/pilates workouts after practice on Mondays. Many thanks to Tony Adams for giving up her time to help benefit the team. Ms. Adams workouts will help with flexibility and core strength. However the swimmer must be self disciplined enough to do these exercises during the week. Help yourself out swimmers!! After stretching, all groups of the Gators do warm-ups. The amounts vary by age and group. Warm-up is designed again to prepare the body to receive more work. Warm-ups should and does include FAST swimming. Just like a boxer that comes out sweating before the match, we as swimmers need to be tired from fast swimming to swim fast. Swimmers need to stretch and warm-up daily!!! Even if they do not come to practice. This will help prepare muscle development and help prevent injury. Please make sure your swimmer is prepared by being on time and having them (the swimmer) ready for practice or the swim meet. Your Coach Greg

Newsletter Thanks to all who volunteered at the Great Pumpkin Meet. We had a wonderful turn out and the meet ran smoothly. We could not have ran a meet that large without everyone's help. Thanks So Much!!! We have two meets in November. November the 1416th is the Knoxville meet and Coach Greg will be taking several swimmers to that meet. Good luck and make us proud. Next is the the BRSL Invitational in Hickory on November 22nd. Good
luck to all who are going to Hickory and swim fast. The Gators have recently incorporated some strength training and yoga into our practice on Monday's, thanks to Tonya Adams. We want to see all swimmers doing these exercises not just on Mondays but at home and stretching before all swim practices.
