February ‘01 PRINCETON CLUB OF GEORGIA ALUMNI SCHOOLS COMMITTEE UPDATE Did you know that our ASC is responsible for interviewing all 200+ applicants from across the state of Georgia (excluding only those in the city of Savannah)? Or that we had a perfect interview rate of 100% last year? We could not achieve such stellar results without the wonderful volunteers from around the state, including interviewers in Americus, Athens, Augusta, Columbus, Dalton, and Macon, in addition to those in metro Atlanta. Many thanks to our great crew who completed more than 60 interviews on two Saturday mornings this Fall and another 85 in January and February. We also appreciate the hard work of our members serving Princeton nationally: Vicky McElhaney Benedict '91, who has just begun serving a three-year term on the Alumni Council's National Committee on Schools, and Adrienne Fancher '88, who was recently appointed to the newly-formed Minority Recruitment Subcommittee of the National Committee on Schools. Additionally, we would like to welcome Rachel van der Voort '93, who has been appointed to serve as the ASC Publicity Chair. As such, she will be recruiting volunteers for the nearly year-round college fairs that Princeton is invited to as well as organizing our April and August events for the admitted applicants. If you're interested in helping out, please contact Rachel at (404) 652-6081 or via email at REVANDER@GAPAC.com. The Early Decision results are in! We had 36 applicants, of which nine were admitted and 27 were either deferred or not admitted. They performed their acclaimed “Puns of Steel” show to an audience of over 200 cheering people at Atlanta‟s beautiful Pace Academy Performing Arts Center. What a great turnout in spite of the bitter cold and icy conditions! For over 2 hours the comedy performing arts troop danced, sang and joked to the delight of the large audience. It really could not have been a better evening. There are many people to thank who made the evening such a success. Peter Dowell coordinated ticket sales, Nancy Newman coordinated housing, Jeremy Kestler coordinated marketing and Sally Sears orchestrated an amazing dinner for the students and reception for all of the guests. Special thanks to the volunteers from the new Atlanta Girl‟s School for their help with the reception. In addition, thanks to Sean and CeCe Coleman for their help in coordinating the event for the Club. The following people deserve special recognition for their generosity in sponsoring the show and making it possible: Evan Bell „51 Sue Boughton „80 Robert Brawner „96 Katherine Brokaw „82 Sean ‟91 and CeCe Coleman R. Thanks to all who made the effort to come out and contribute to making the event such a success. TRIANGLE DONATIONS NEEDED Additionally, the Princeton Club of Georgia sponsored the entire Triangle visit and agreed to front all of the money to necessary to pay for the theatre and the fee of Triangle. Unfortunately, ticket sales and donations have not fully reimbursed the Club for its expenditures. We need your help! Any donations that you could make would be very appreciated. Please send any donations payable to “Princeton Club of Georgia”, c/o Russ Wofford, Alston & Bird, 1201 West Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30309. Special recognition for donors will be made in the Club‟s next newsletter. THANK YOU and PLEASE BE GENEROUS! 3 ANNUAL DINNER Speaking of glorious evenings, on November 3, 2000, The Princeton Club of Georgia held its Annual Dinner at the beautiful Capital City Country Club‟s main ballroom. Luckily, the weather cooperated and the dinner turnout tied a club record. Much of the excitement centered on this year‟s keynote speaker, head men‟s lacrosse coach Bill Tierney. Coach Tierney showed highlights of his teams national championship performances and delighted the crowd with stories of his teams glories and prospects for the future. We really appreciate Coach Tierney taking time out of his busy schedule to come to Atlanta. As lacrosse as a sport starts to take off in the state of Georgia, hopefully one of our own will soon be the next star for Princeton lacrosse. Special thanks to Tom and Amelia Baker for their help with securing Capital City Club for the event, and thanks to all those who made it out for such a nice evening!
