Scholarships available:

Associated Students Scholarships-(3) $300 Scholarships
Must be in good academic standing with at least a 2.0 GPA
Must be an ASC cardholder at Miramar College for Spring 2005
Must have completed at least 6 units at Miramar College
Must be currently enrolled in at least 6 units at Miramar College
One scholarship will be awarded to each category:
General student body member
AS Senator
Active Club Member

EOPS Student Association Scholarships – (2) $250 Scholarships
2.0 GPA or better
At least 6 units of current enrollment at Miramar College
Participation in the EOPS Club (Having attended at least 3 meetings) during the Spring
2005 semester

Martin Andrews Memorial Scholarships – (2) $750 Scholarship
Current enrollment at Miramar College
Completion of 15 community college units of which a minimum of 6 units are in the
Aviation Major
Minimum 2.5 overall GPA

Jean Lafferty Scholarships – (2) $250 Scholarships
2.2 GPA or better
High school senior or current Miramar student who will be enrolling at Miramar in the
Fall 2005 with a minimum of six (6) units
Julianne Eisner Scholarships – (3) $200 Scholarships
Completion of Legal 100A & B
500 word essay on, “Why I want to become a Paralegal.”
2.0 GPA or better

Miramar College Foundation Scholarships – (10) $500 Scholarships
Currently enrolled in 6 units at Miramar College
Completed 12 units at Miramar College
Strong academic background

Mission Federal Credit Union Scholarships – (2) $500 Scholarships
GPA of 2.5 or better
Completion of 6 units at Miramar College with current enrollment of 6 units OR current
full-time enrollment of 12 units at Miramar College
Must demonstrate financial need
Must have interest in pursuing a four-year degree

Priority Enrollment for summer school:

The Priority enrollment date for EOPS and DSPS students has been scheduled for Friday
May 6th, 2005. Be sure to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity making sure you
stop by the office to pick your classes before the enrollment date. Counselors will be
available to help you review your Ed plan. Also, if you would like to be considered for
possible grant monies; please fill out the form at the end of the newsletter.

Are you graduating or Transferring?

Let us know! Graduating students, as an EOPS student you may be eligible to have your
cap and gown purchased for you by the EOPS program. Graduation this year is scheduled
for the end of May. More information on graduation will be mailed to you this month if
you applied for graduation. For additional information, contact the evaluations
department at (619) 388 – 7371, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Transfer students Bring
us a copy of your acceptance letter to post on our wall of honor!

Free Tax Returns (For people who qualify)

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program can help you.
Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is for people who work but don’t earn high incomes.
You may qualify to receive a free tax return if:
No one can claim you as a dependent and you are single.
Or you are married, filing jointly with no qualifying child and earned less than $11,490-
$12, 49
Or, with one qualifying child and earned less than $30,338, $31, 33
Or, with more than one qualifying child and earned less than $34,458, $35,458
Operations Hours: Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays: 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM

SDSU to accept students in spring of 2006!

SDSU will be admitting students for the spring semester. Students must have a signed
Transfer Studies Degree (TSD) contract signed by May of this year and have all of the
transfer requirements met by the end of fall 2005. So, if you had previously planned to sit
out in the spring to wait for the fall admissions cycle to come by, you now have a new
opportunity. Stop in to see a counselor soon. TSD contracts for spring admission must
be signed by May! Check out the web link below for more info.


On Saturday April 9, from 8 AM - 2 PM, San Diego State will host a free all-campus
event called Explore SDSU Open House 2005. If you are considering attending San
Diego State University, don’t miss Explore SDSU 2005. Students, parents and friends are
cordially invited to join them for this rain or shine event. Students who are considering
applying to SDSU in the future should definitely attend this event. The web link below
has details for prospective and admitted students.


Fun Multicultural fair

The Miramar College Multicultural Fair is set for Tuesday April 5th, 2005. The MC fair
will begin at 10 a.m. and run through 1:00 p.m. The Multicultural fair committee has
invited several street vendors, dance troupes and food vendors to participate. The event
will take place by the I building. Come watch the dunk tank, snack on some munchies
and shop for some music, scented items and desserts? Ask your instructor for extra credit
If you’d like to receive EOPS financial assistance (book account) and
supportive services for summer school, please let us know! Fill out the
form below and submit it to the EOPS office ASAP. Funds will be
granted on a first come first serve basis and forms will only be accepted
the day after priority registration.

UCSD TAG signing workshops
