Brandi Avant, LMT e-Newsletter 3rd Edition! 10.20.06 In this issue: Fundraising Update Headaches- You don‟t have to live with them! Referral Program National Massage Therapy Awareness Week Quick Tip for Health- Hydrate Fundraising Update As you may remember, I recently hosted a public fundraising event for The American Cancer Society and Locks of Love (http://www.brandiavant.com/?q=node/58). In conjunction with Round Rock‟s Main Street Artisan Stroll, I set up a booth where people could donate money or even donate their hair! By the end of the night I had collected over $200 in cash donations, and 32 inches of hair! Wow, what a success! I would like to thank the following local businesses who donated time, services, prizes or money: Lone Star Sports Cuts Julia Heart studios John Pointer- Musician Extraordinaire Louisiana Longhorn Café Snapdragon Flowers „N Such Life Force Personal Fitness Johnson Outdoor Advertising L.P. Soleil Floors Keria Teas Main Street 101 The Party Image The Silk Cocoon, LLC Envy Salon A special thank you goes out as well to the three brave souls who sacrificed ten or more inches of their hair so that children with permanent hair loss can have real hair wigs. Way to go! Headaches- You don‟t have to live with them! This may come as surprise to some headache sufferers out there, but did you know that the human body was not designed to need anti-inflammatories and caffeine? I know, this sounds a little crazy, but let me assure you, it is true. It amazes me how many times I hear something like, “Oh, headaches aren‟t a problem for me. I just take four Ibuprofen three times a day, or drink a Coke, and my headaches subside.” Wow! People have truly come to believe that drugging their bodies is the only way to avoid pain! If this sounds like you or someone you know, please consider the fact that there are better alternatives for treating headaches. When it comes to pain, there is always an underlying cause. It is not normal to have a headache every day, once a week, or even once a month. It is important to discover what physiological factors are contributing to this pain state so that they may be addressed and the headaches can be eliminated. During your initial session with me, we will explore different areas in your life where you can begin to make small adjustments that will have a major impact on your health. Some examples include drinking more water, stretching your neck muscles and improving your posture. Your personalized sessions will then focus on relieving areas of tension that are contributing to imbalance in your body. When balance is regained, your body‟s natural ability to heal itself is unlocked, and health is restored- no chemicals required. Referral program Word of mouth referrals from satisfied clients are the most effective way to grow my business. When you tell your family, friends, and co-workers about my services, you are giving them the opportunity to discover a deeper level of health and well-being, while helping to ensure that my practice is alive and well and able to continue providing the excellent therapy you have come to expect. I am greatly appreciative of the trust that you place in me by sending new clients my way. It is for these reasons and more that I have always believed in rewarding your efforts and have had a very strong and successful referral program. Effective November 1, I am restructuring my referral program. When you refer someone to me, please feel free to offer them $20 off of their first 60 or 90-minute session. This is my way of making it a little easier for them to try out something new. Once your referral has completed their first appointment, you will be invited to add 30 minutes (a $35 value) to your next 60 minute session absolutely free of charge! Keep an eye out for my next e-newsletter, where I will provide a few simple tips to help you easily refer people for my services, so that you (and they) can reap the rewards! National Massage Therapy Awareness Week The week of October 22-28 is the American Massage Therapy Association‟s (AMTA) annual National Massage Therapy Awareness Week. One of my goals during this week is to educate people about the value of professional massage and bodywork. Many people view massage as a way to pamper themselves or their loved ones for rare special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries. The truth is that bodywork should be a part of most everyone‟s health maintenance program. Unfortunately, people often wait until their bodies are suffering from pain and dysfunction before they seek help. When you take a pro-active approach with bodywork, your body stays healthy and you can often avoid maladies brought on by stress and tension. Massage has been shown to effectively lower blood pressure, reduce occurrences and severity of low back pain, eliminate headaches caused by neck tension, increase productivity at work, enhance feelings of well-being and enhance the quality of your sleep. These are only a few of the myriad benefits that you can experience by receiving regular, preventive massage. In honor of National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, I am offering $20 off all 30, 60 and 90 minute sessions when you contact me between October 22 and October 28 to schedule your introductory session. Please note that this offer is good for new clients only. If you know someone who could benefit from massage, please share this information with them and help them to discover the therapeutic side of bodywork! Quick Tip for Health Last month you learned how simply taking a few moments to breathe deeply can significantly improve your health and well-being. This month‟s quick tip is equally simple- stay hydrated! That‟s right, by making sure that your body takes in adequate hydration, you can help boost your quality of health and quality of life. Some signs of moderate dehydration can include:  Feeling tired, weary  Trouble concentrating  Being cranky  Feeling stiff-jointed  Headache  Nausea It is recommended to drink half of your body weight in ounces each day to stay healthy and hydrated. So, if you weigh 130 pounds, you would want to drink 65 ounces of water throughout the course of your day. During hot weather and physical exertion such as exercising, you will need to increase your water intake to counter water lost through sweating. Some benefits of staying adequately hydrated include:     More energy Mental clarity Improved mood Decreased muscle tension    Increased joint mobility Decreased frequency and duration of headaches Enhanced digestive functioning So, wherever you go throughout your day, keep your water bottle close at hand, and drink to good health!
