Policy Letters
“When students on our team do not hand in an assignment or are missing any required material, we have them write us a letter indicating the missing work/material and acknowledging that they have received no credit for the work. When letters accumulate, we send them home along with a letter to notify parents of the missing work. The letter reminds the parents of our assignment policy and suggests that they check with their child or us to find out if the missing work has since been completed. I love this additional communication with parents because it's an objective documentation of student effort and it fosters more school-home communication. This way academic effort grades on progress reports are not surprises either!” --Submitted by Ellen Levy, Teacher Cooper Middle School, Buffalo Grove, Illinois
