Board Briefs A Newsletter from The Garden Club of Georgia’s Board of Directors Volume VII Fall 2006 Edition IV Garden Club Friends, WOW-M! Wonderful, Outstanding, Women and Men. This has certainly been an exciting first year for all of us. We have experienced many “Challenges and Changes” and all have been met and accepted. As the song goes “It’s summer time and the living is easy”. Well, it’s summer time anyway! I do hope that all of you are enjoying the summer months, relaxing, resting, and having fun! By the time you read this school will be nearly back in session and GCG will be gearing up once again and going full blast! Our Fall Board meeting will be held in beautiful Helen, Georgia, September 1920th. Immediately following the board meeting we will travel to Richard B. Russell State Park in Elberton, Georgia for our Parks and Public Lands Luncheon where we will be recognizing the men and women of the DNR for all their hard work and accomplishments. Make plans to attend on September 21st and let them know how much we appreciate them. Then the next month, inOctober, all our District Fall meetings will take place. I trust that you are making plans to be at your district meeting, where I look forward to meeting and greeting you once more and introducing you to Sara Lanier, the next GCG President! It was certainly a pleasure for me to have represented you at the Deep South Convention in Chattanooga, Tennessee and at the National Convention in Orlando, Florida. Georgia certainly took center stage with all the Awards won at both conventions. It took several of us to carry all the “loot” back to the room where they were displayed and celebrated. Your President stood there with a smile as BIG as GEORGIA on her face, and the next day it was still there! In fact, it took several days for it to relax a little. Even while writing this, the smile comes back. Just wish that all of you could have been there! I do hope that you took the time to read the list of Awards that was sent out to you in May. My thanks and congratulations to Sara Lanier, 1st VP and GCG & NGC Awards Chairman, Sybil McGlaun, Deep South Awards Chairman and the Awards Committee for a job well done! See you in the fall! “Challenges & Changes” Dollie Dollie Harper congratulates Margaret Ballard & Jean Sawyer on an outstanding 2006 Convention. Lunch will be served in the garden. The LeConte brothers were famous horticulturists that started the University of California and their environmental feats are legendary. They also founded the Sierra Club. The avenue of the oaks which we planted to honor prestigious members of our organization is flourishing. The Camellia gardens which were planted and dedicated to the memory of state board member and past Oleander District Director, Corlyn McCroskey, are beautiful. There is a camellia which dates back to the time of the LeContes. Please give a donation to this worthwhile project of the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and you will be recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation at our state convention!
