					                          Cursive – Zaner Bloser style
Objective: The objective of cursive instruction is to teach students to write legibly.

Teaching notes: Verbalization of proper stokes is useful in initial instruction, and
students are encouraged to recite the strokes as they create the letters during initial
instruction.

Legible cursive benefits students in both reading and writing, and enhances all areas of
instruction as letter formation becomes automatic.

Discretion can be used in acceptance of formation after initial instruction, as long as
legibility remains the focus.

Legibility can be defined by size, shape, spacing, and slant during instruction.

      Stroke / Verbal description
      Letter
1. Undercurve An Undercurve stroke swings up.
Practice with: Touch the baseline; curve under and up to the midline,
                  or to headline
2. Downcurve A Downcurve stroke dives down.
Practice with: Touch the midline, or headline; curve left and down to
                  baseline
3. Overcurve An Overcurve stroke bounces up.
Practice with: Touch the baseline; curve up and right to the midline
                  or headline
4. Slant A slant stroke slides down.
Practice with: Touch the midline, or headline; slant left to the
                  baseline
5. Slide A slide goes straight across
Practice with: Touch the line and make a short straight line
6. Checkstroke A checkstroke hooks at the midline
Practice with: Finish the letter with a small dip back to the midline
