What is the Patriots Alliance? Our Mission and Goals
The Patriots Alliance is a not-for-profit organization created in June 2003 to act as an advocate for Fort Monmouth and the Fort Monmouth Community. Its Board of Directors and nearly 300 members feel strongly that Fort Monmouth contributes invaluable support to our nation's military both here and abroad and to the local and state community and economy. The Patriots Alliance is dedicated to helping to maintain and increase the good relationship between Fort Monmouth and the community, and to demonstrating the importance of the work done at Fort Monmouth to the leaders of the state and nation. The goal of the Patriots Alliance is to act as an advocate for Fort Monmouth to county, state, Congressional and Department of Defense decision-makers in any way possible. To that end, the members of the Alliance are working with the Governor's Commission to Support and Enhance New Jersey's Military and Coast Guard Installations and taking whatever other action possible to advance the Fort Monmouth Community and assist the Save Our Fort Committee. The Patriots Alliance would like to see the work being done at Fort Monmouth, which is saving lives of both civilians and military personnel overseas, continued and enhanced. Fort Monmouth should take a leadership role in the new military structure that will emphasize joint activities between all branches of the military service, academia and industry. We invite everyone associated with Fort Monmouth and all those within the community to assist in our efforts.
Patriots Alliance Works With Governor's Commission to Support New Jersey's Military and Coast Guard Installations
Members of the Patriots Alliance are working with the Governor's Commission to Support and Enhance New Jersey's Military and Coast Guard Installations. Data is now being gathered and made ready for dissemination on why New Jersey's bases, including and especially Fort Monmouth, are unique and are needed in order for the United States military efforts to be successful. Vice Admiral Paul G. Gaffney II USN (Ret.), president of Monmouth University, was selected by the Governor to chair the Commission. He has worked diligently to prepare a full report for the Governor on the merits of New Jersey's military installations. The co-chairs of the Patriots Alliance, S. Thomas Gagliano and Frank C. Muzzi, are members of the 25-person Commission and have participated in several Commission meetings at which plans were made for supporting New Jersey bases during the BRAC process. Also serving on the Commission is Brookdale Community College President Dr. Peter F. Burnham. The members of the Commission have visited each of the seven bases in the state and witnessed first hand the important work being done at each. In addition to Fort Monmouth, the bases are Picatinny Arsenal; McGuire Air Force Base; Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station; Earle Naval Weapons Station; Fort Dix and Atlantic City – 177th Fighter Wing. Following an all-day visit to Fort Monmouth, the members of the Commission were impressed by the outstanding and unique capabilities at the Fort and the superior work that is being done there for military operations abroad and for homeland defense efforts at home.

The Patriots Alliance Proudly Supports Team Fort Monmouth Here are Just a Few of the Many Reasons Why
Current Contributions Team Fort Monmouth is in the forefront of the electronics and communications innovations that are used throughout the Army and in other branches of the service. The personnel at Fort Monmouth, in cooperation with industry and academia, are the leaders in researching and developing communications and computer equipment used in the field by the modern military personnel. It unites in one place, research and development, procurement and field sustainment of information and communications technology based systems. Among the many items developed at Fort Monmouth that save the lives of service personnel and civilians are Firefinder, radar that pinpoints the enemy's artillery and motor locations; Blue Force Tracking, a GPS-based tracking system that identifies friendly forces; all computer-based command and control systems, and all equipment for ground, air and satellite communications worldwide for the Army and Air Force. Military Value Fort Monmouth is the centerpiece of the Army’s “Network Centric Warfare” technology, development, procurement and sustainment capability, which is the future for military operations. Because of the experience and expertise at Fort Monmouth, it is in a position to lead a combined NCW mission for Army, Navy and Air Force. Team C4ISR, or Joint Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, for the Army is based at Fort Monmouth. It brings together the research and development of information technology and communications for our military and for homeland defense. Team C4ISR at Fort Monmouth is the national leader in research and development for communications for the Army, and the team is actively pursuing ways to cooperate with its neighbors and other military bases in even more ways than what has already been accomplished. Strategic Location Fort Monmouth's location is: In close proximity to Air Force, Navy and other Army installations with which it cooperates. At the center of a vast transportation network of roads, rail and airports, has the natural resources to support even more missions and is surrounded by educational institutions. Central in the power corridor from Boston to Washington. Home to the “profound knowledge” that includes America’s most technically talented workforce supporting our military.
Homeland Defense and Homeland Security The 9/11 Commission and the National Research Council have cited Network Centric Operations and Fort Monmouth's C4ISR Team as the two key factors that need to be implemented in homeland defense efforts. Both are headquartered at Fort Monmouth. It is near both New York City and Washington, D.C., which are critical potential terrorist target areas, but outside any danger zone Economic Vitality Fort Monmouth is Monmouth County's third largest employer with 5,585 civilian and military personnel (as of June 2004), more than one third of whom are engineers, scientists and computer specialists. Fort Monmouth budgets more than $1 billion annually for goods and services: $740 million of that is in direct expenditures and $388 million in salaries for base personnel. Fort Monmouth awarded $8.2 billion in contracts this fiscal year ending September 30. The work done at Fort Monmouth generates $2.5 billion in economic activity and supports more than 22,000 jobs throughout the state.

Fort Monmouth's Team C4ISR: A Leader for All of the Nation's Military
Through Team C4ISR, Fort Monmouth is cooperating with Rutgers University, Monmouth University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Stevens Institute of Technology and Princeton University on projects beneficial to all. Some of those efforts center on use of photonics in communications, software development, offering doctorate degrees in engineering, and developing rapid response networks in case of terrorist attack. In addition, Team C4ISR is working with Picatinny Arsenal and Fort Dix in experiments in Future Combat Systems. The team works with McGuire Air Force Base, Fort Dix and Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Center on testing new equipment. Fort Monmouth also provides a number of services to other bases, such as environmental services, construction design and management, and medial care for soldiers deploying from other bases. Team C4ISR supports all the military services with contracting requirements and life cycle support. Team C4ISR at Fort Monmouth has hired 1,200 new people over the last three years, mostly from nearby academia and industry. Through these efforts and 34 cooperative agreements with surrounding industry and academia, Fort Monmouth has developed one of the highest concentrations of scientific brainpower available anywhere in the nation. Fort Monmouth already provides the national leadership in Team C4ISR for the Army and cooperates on Joint projects with other bases. It could easily become the Team C4ISR headquarters for the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines without disruption to any of its projects and could lead the nation's military into the future successfully.
The Patriots Alliance Board and Membership are proud of the outstanding work done at Fort Monmouth by the many dedicated civilian, military and industry personnel and the Alliance is prepared to support Fort Monmouth as we approach BRAC 2005. We invite the entire community to help us support Fort Monmouth so that it may continue its work into the future.
