Fogas, Oesterheld & Shader (2001) recently published an interesting study in journal of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics [vol 22, 211-216] relevant to participants' informed consent issues. They conducted a structured telephone interview with 115 children (6 - 19 yrs of age) who had been participants in a study of methylphenidate metabolism in children with ADHD concerning their experiences of and satisfaction with participation in the earlier study. The authors report "children overwhelmingly perceived their involvement as voluntary (89%) and the information about the study as being accurately presented (80%), and they reported a high level of satisfaction with their participation (97%)."
