SUSPENSION LETTERS
A subcommittee of the Professional Advisors Group volunteered to work on developing guidelines for suspension letters. The committee hopes that this will lead to standardized practices on the RIT campus. It is fully recognized that individual colleges/departments will need to make modifications to meet both their department’s particular circumstances and the unique circumstances of individual students. We do encourage those dealing with suspended students to embrace the spirit of best practices. This packet includes: 1. For faculty and staff: A List of Best Practices for Academic Suspension Letters A list for faculty reference of how suspension impacts students Sample suspension letters: - Suspension letter with option to appeal - Suspension letter with option to appeal - Suspension waived with an academic contract - Suspension letter with referral to CRP 2. For distribution to students: After Academic Suspension from RIT General Questions and Answers about Academic Suspension Checklist for Students on Academic Suspension Tips on Writing Your Suspension Appeal Letter
The committee feels that these forms should be available online in respective sites for faculty, staff and student reference.
