NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2007 Doesn’t time fly when one is enjoying oneself or is it really a month since the last newsletter was published. We hope that the method of e.mailing is proving satisfactory with most members. There have been a few hiccups, particularly with those with slower systems which do not allow the full extent of the photographs to be transmitted but in general, the change from post to e.mail is on the right track and we think is here to stay. John and myself are unashamedly new to this game and it is very much a learning curve for us. We always value feedback and would like to have your comments, good or bad on what you think of the new way of distributing news and events. Of course, some members prefer the newsletter to be sent by post and we will continue to do this for members without email addresses. We also plan to put the newsletter on the MG website soon so those member using jerseymail can see the pictures in colour. The e.mail is a good medium for letting us known your thoughts on the what events, both social and motoring you would like to see organised and for sending last minute reminders,we promise that every suggestion will be considered. You can contact us : Peter Winn email@example.com John Such firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com 2008 Rally The applications for participating in the rally have been coming in at a steady stream and this is before the event has been advertised, so we are confident that the event will be well attended and as successful as previous years. The programme is slowly building with the framework in place and the detail being worked out. The events have been swopped around abit which we think will make things easier for the entrants ( not to mention giving the ladies time to do a little shopping). Friday. Arrival of most of the cars and Vin dHonneur in the evening. Saturday Driving skills in the morning with the afternoon free. Evening social and party(fancy dress) Sunday Concours event at the Peoples Park and afternoon tea Monday Morning Drive with the prize giving at lunchtime. The fancy dress theme for the party this year will be “Rock and Roll” and many an aspiring Elvis or Connie Francis will be able to strut their stuff to a real live band. Could that Bill Haley kiss curl once again be coaxed from the few hairs that still remain. What about trying a Tony Curtis at the front with a Boston at the back. The possibilities are endless. Christmas Meal--- December 8th.—8 p.m. Everything is organised, the table is booked and there has been a steady stream of JMGOC members confirming that they are coming. Most just want the meal but others have taken the meal and accommodation package so will be able to indulge without having to think about driving or taking taxis. To remind you of the details. The meal only £15.95 per person This is for the four course carvery menu with an extensive selection The meal and accommodation £41.95 per person for the meal with bed and breakfast. Book in Saturday afternoon and enjoy the hotel leisure facilities before the evening bash. Unfortunately, due to family reasons, I will not be able to come to the event so I have handed the organisation and the cheques already received, over to John. If you are coming please make out cheques for the required amount to “The Les Charrieres Hotel” and send to John Such, “Quiberon” 29 Elizabeth Avenue, St. Brelade, JE3 8GR Please do not leave it to the last minute. Get your cheque books out now and get it off in the post so that we can plan for extra tables if required. November meet The Sunday turn out this month was amazing with a bevy of 17 beautiful M.Gs including 3 t types, a total of 19 cars including a mini and bmw, all lined up in Maillards car park. No doubt brought out because of the beautiful sunny day, it was nevertheless a hopeful sign that the club is again “on the up”. As usual the breakfast was splendiferous and Bill Nixson’s magical mystery tour of deepest and darkest Grouville afterwards was its usual, well thought out and planned drive, finally finishing at the Jersey Pottery These meetings are not only an opportunity to meet and chat to old friends but it gives John and I, a chance to sit down with you over a cup of tea, and find out what you really think and would like to see happen with the club. Often a chance remark gives us some ideas for a future social and a mental note is made to discuss this at the next committee meeting. Aldo bianch new mgb members enjoying a snack 1 New member Philip Hey of the West View Hotel joined us at the november meeting and has now joined the club ,We welcome him on board and hope to see him at our meetings in his MGB GT December meet This will be slightly different, being planned for the 23rd. and we hope it will be as entertaining and well attended as previous months meetings . The Xmas drive( to get in the festive mood why not decorate your car) will start from Maillards at 11.30 and Bill has planned that it will cover the twelve parish churches. Mince pies and coffee ( on the club) will be served before the run. 12 mgs jose correia and indie So what is in the pipeline for 2008 We have been discussing all sorts of ideas for next year and we hope that most of them will get off the ground. These are just some of them Driving skills just for JMGOC members with a barbeque afterwards, are just one of the things that we have discussed and will take forward in the new year. How about a Sunday lunch to lighten the dark dismal days of winter. The new Royal Yacht is a possible venue and it has the most incredible” all you can eat” lunch in its spectacular restaurant, and it is not as expensive as one might think. Speak to the management nicely and they might even give us a guided tour of the penthouse suit after the meal. A snip at £760 per night, it is glimpse of how the other half live. This will be organised after Christmas. Ten pin bowling is another club favourite and an evening with a meal will be organised in the new year. H.D Ferries and their cheap fare for a car and two passengers on a day trip to France could provide us with a club day out, taking in a good meal and track event or shopping. There are only a limited number of these cheap fares each sailing and the trick is to find a date where we can get the maximum number of cars on for this price. This is something that we are looking into. Roy and Jenny will be organising their popular Tour de France weekend for the late May bank Holiday and details will be posted as soon as they are available. Two possibilities for the future may be club trips with our M.Gs up to north France to tour the first world war battlefields in late June and in early September to Perros-Guirec for a journey on a wonderfull steam engine and visit the planetarium Any thoughts on these and should it be a weekend or mid week . For Sale We intend to run the “For Sale” columns in all future newletters and welcome all items for inclusion. Simply detail items and price and send by e.mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or John at email@example.com Bill Painter has an MGF/TF hardtop with heated rear window at £500. Ring him direct on 725030 Mechanical tips Like wise, we have some expert car, takers to bitsers and putters together againers in the club and we welcome any tips that we can include in the newsletter. Subscriptions for 2008 These are due from the January 1st ,so please send with enclosed form to Toby Valois club Treasurer And finally—this will be the last newletter for 2007 so it remains for John who will be shortly leaving to spend winter in Thailand and back in time for the rally and Peter to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and an action packed 2008.
