LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT GROUP NEWSLETTER February 2007 1300 FOR LTG STAFF PROFILE Bill McKean 1300 367 584 NATIONAL RACE PROGRAMMING LTG constantly endeavours to provide the most comprehensive and effective service for our clients throughout Australia. We recognise the shift towards national race programming for horses in work and therefore offer Express Runs to cater for all needs. LTG offers services designed to assist trainers move horses for set programmes interstate. LTG BUSY AT THE SALES With the thoroughbred industry in the middle of the sales season the Scone branch have been very busy transporting horses into the sales companies. The Classic sale in Sydney was dominated by Hunter Valley farms. These farms will have a strong presence at the Melbourne Premier Sale, starting on 4 March, with over six hundred horses for sale. There was a reduced offering from Scone farms this year at the Adelaide yearling sale and this coincided with the reduction in the size of the catalogue. Quite a strong buying bench from Queensland was active at this sale and this resulted in LTG making the long trek north with several trucks. There is a small respite before the Easter yearling, weanling and broodmare sales commencing in April, and again there is a large contingent of horses from the Hunter Valley in the catalogue. LTG staff will be at every major sale to take care of all your transport needs to all states – and we look forward to catching up with you. • Role at LTG: Driver/horse handler NSW. How long have you been working at LTG? Just over 3 years. • • What are your hobbies outside work? CB radio, ham radio, choir, and motorbike riding. With Sydney’s Easter Carnival and Brisbane’s Winter Carnival almost upon us, please don’t hesitate to speak to the Operations Team to discuss your transporting needs on 1300 FOR LTG. A GOOD MOVE What is your favourite holiday destination, and why? I don’t really have one, but I enjoy the beach and the sun. Apart from that, home is fine for a holiday, I can do some work around the house! • After many years of success in South Africa, David Payne made the move to Australia - and has subsequently had more than his fair share of winners, and is currently enjoying his most fruitful year. With horses of the calibre of Hurried Choice (Widden Stakes winner), Viva Caro (Saturday winner Rosehill), More Than Lucky (Expressway stakes placegetter) and Fantastic Owners (2yo winner) this Autumn is shaping to be David Payne’s best. David has also been active at all the yearling sales this year, ensuring a strong future in Sydney and Australian racing.
