s RICE LAKE DATA
Action Plans:

  After review and careful consideration
of the conclusions and other data
findings from the WIBRES study, the
  Rice Lake WIBRES Taskforce in
  cooperation with the Wisconsin
  Department of Commerce decided
  upon the following recommendations
  for Rice Lake.

                s RICE LAKE DATA
Action Plan:

Business Retention & Business Expansion

  1. Revitalize the Rice Lake business
     retention program by utilizing this
study to follow up on identified
     local business issues. Retention
     calls should include contact with
     local management and eventual
     contact with executives at the
     respective company-headquarter
     offices.

Action Plan:

Business Retention & Business Expansion

  2. After determining the extent or
possibility of an industry exiting the
Rice Lake area, establish a pro-active
     contact program enhancing our
chances of retention instead of the
     “wait and see” approach. Include
     county and/or state personnel
     assistance in this effort.

                 s RICE LAKE DATA
Action Plan:

Business Retention & Business Expansion

  3. Finalize an aggressive Business Plan
involving the Rice Lake Chamber of
     Commerce, Red Cedar Development
and the City of Rice Lake to enhance
Rice Lake’s position in obtaining new
businesses in the Technology Park as
well as the existing Business Parks.
     This plan should include individuals
who are competent in providing the
     prospective business with assistance
     and answers as required.

Business Retention & Business Expansion

  4. Improve information “flow” to our
     industries interested in expanding
     government contracts. Our survey
     showed 50% having an interest.
     Provide a procurement
     workshop/seminar assisted by the
     Business Procurement Assistance
     Center (Madison).

                 s RICE LAKE DATA
Action Plan:

Business Retention & Business Expansion

  5. Develop a directory of all products
     and services provided by Rice
     Lake businesses and share locally.
This information can also be used
     in the recruitment of new
     complementary businesses, as
     suppliers of our businesses need
     to be considered “prospective
     tenants” in our Business Parks.

Action Plan:

Business Retention & Business Expansion

  6. Continue to monitor businesses
     preparing to expand existing
facilities as well as those planning
to relocate to a new facility and
     encourage these expansions to
     occur here in Rice Lake.

  7. Utilize our website with a current
listing of available sites for new
     business activity and appropriate
     contact information. Investigate
     the Location One Information
System (LOIS) to be offered by the
     Wisconsin Department of
     Commerce and Forward Wisconsin
as a possible marketing tool for
     Rice Lake sites.

businesses to show “we care” and
     enhance the success rate.
