Clarity is Kenneth Locke's goal and he achieves it admirably, providing a well-drawn map of the Anglican doctrine of the church, and its development over time. [...] the aplomb with which he leads the reader sure-footedly across such an extensive tract of theological and historical terrain results in a welcome sense of orientation amid the complex and contested practical questions that make Anglican ecclesiology such a minefield today.
