On Our Way to Greener Pastures by ProQuest

Going with the theme of abstinence, I've come to realize that our faces and most parts of our bodies don't need soap to clean them. My face and body are healthier, cleaner and more moisturized without moisturizer and soap than with! Our kids have never had a chance to compare. They've never used soap on anything but their hands. People at cosmetic stores tell me my face will stay healthier and younger longer if I use a "good" (everything I've been recommended contains toxic ingrethents) moisturizer. I haven't read the research behind using moisturizers and related products to keep your face and body looking "young," so maybe I'll look "old" long before my moisturizing peers. But because I'm not smothering my body with toxins every day, I bet I'll be less likely to get the cancers related to these products. And I have come to embrace looking my age. My marks and wrinkles mean I've lived; they tell my story!I haven't had many problems changing my deodorant. I used to use the smelly kinds of antipcrspirant and deodorants one can buy at supermarkets. I now use a Salt Stone recommended by Skin Deep. I don't smell like "Satin Pear" or "Floral Splash" or "Pure Cashmere" but I'm happy about that. I like smelling like me. My partner has had more trouble making the change. When he uses a Salt Stone, he describes himself as smelling "raw," as in he has bad Body Odor. I disagree. I don't think he smells bad. (I picked him, right?!) I think he smells good. He has his own scent. He just doesn't smell like a store.Last but not least, there's toothpaste. Ugh. This is one topic I have not come to a clear-cut decision on. Fluoride or fluoride free: That is the question. About once a year I wiffle waffle and go back to the research to do more reading. On our teeth, we've used baking soda, Tom's of Maine toothpaste (fluoride and fluoride free) and xylitol. When my first son developed two cavities, my beliefs were challenged. Most dentists just told me to have the cavities filled, go ho
