RESIGNATION LETTER Occasionally you may need to write a letter resigning from a position. Regardless of your reason for resigning, your letter should be friendly in tone and tactful. Someday you may want to use this employer as a reference, and you want the employer to remember you favorably. The following example uses the bad-news plan. Remember to format your personal business letter in correct block or modified block style. Dear Mr. O'Conner: I have enjoyed my last three years at the Smith Tool and Die Company. I have learned a great deal and have made many permanent friends. Because I would like to make greater use of my sales background, I have accepted a position at the brokerage firm of Smythe and Dale.
