August 25, 2008 Dear Friends,
The sweepstakes-winning Lake Travis High School Cavalier Band will be hosting its annual "Blast-A-Thon" on Friday, October 24th. This free concert for the community will take place over three hours, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., in the Upper Track Field at LTHS. Everyone is invited to come and go as schedules allow. Attendees will be treated to special performances by the Cavalier Marching Band, Jazz Band, Color Guard, and Drum Line. Rumor has it that the event will close with the highly anticipated and always exciting "march off," beginning with approximately 135 band members and, through a series of increasingly difficult commands given by Director Kenneth Vise, eliminating those who miss a step until the field is down to one "winner." A silent auction will be held in conjunction with this event. Food and beverages will be sold, as well as "band fan" merchandise in the Band Store. Younger students will have the opportunity to learn about being in band when they try out various instruments and even march with the band on the field! I am proud to be a member of this incredible organization. We work very hard to learn our music and marching routines, starting with band camp for the three weeks prior to the beginning of the school year, and we continue by spending as many as 40 hours a week perfecting our work to support our school in the weekly football games and through marching competitions across the state of Texas. To make our support of the school possible, we need your support. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of volunteer hours and a great amount of money to make an organization the size and caliber of the Lake Travis Cavalier Band successful. Your donations through this Blast-A-Thon event will help pay for transportation, instruments and equipment, and music scores for the year ahead. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us. Checks may be made payable to LT Band Parents, Inc. (a 501(c)(3) organization), or you can pledge your support now and follow up by mailing your check. Thank you for considering this request.
