Flyball Maine-ia- the way life SHOULD be! Welcome to Maine’s FIRST Flyball Tournament!!
We are all very happy to have you here and hope you have a great time. We have a great raffle, plenty of vendors and lots of racing. First a few rules: Bangor Tennis Club was very generous in letting us use their building when we were in a pinch, so we have a few rules so we get invited back if we want to do it again next year- mostly to protect the floor that they just put in for $8000 : 1) We are putting covering down on most of the floor. Please bring tarps or floor covers to protect the floor in your crating area. We are hoping to have it all covered, but it never hurts to have more. 2) If a dog has an accident (even if on a tarp or mat) please clean it right away- cleanser and paper towels will be by the judges table. If you need help with this, find one of the Maineiacs . 3) We cannot get into set up until 8pm Friday night, so please do not come to set stuff up unless you are willing to wait to bring stuff in AND help- we have to cover the floor before any „stuff‟ comes in. It‟s going to be a long night regardless. To alleviate some of your anxiety, we have pre-assigned crating space for everyone (20 X 20 foot spaces) everyone will have room. If I have time, I will make a file with the tourney layout and send it out to you all. 4) Please no food or drink (other than water) on the tennis court space (racing/crating/vending areas). There is a snack bar in perfect viewing of the racing that you are more than welcome to sit out there to eat and drink (and they are serving beer!). 5) As always (and flyball people are good about this, so I don‟t really need to remind) pick up after the pups outside. There are extra baggies everywhere and trashcans by all the doors. 6) Be nice to all the table, line and box judges. Most are volunteers (agility people, beginner flyball people, or friends/family) who haven‟t done this before. I‟m trying to convince most of them that flyball is something they should do, so I want them to have a good experience at the tournament. 7) While the box and line should be covered both days, there may be a few races where our volunteers are taking a break- so if you see an open spot and can do it, please fill in- we‟d be forever grateful. 8) We are hoping to have lots of spectators from the Bangor area, as well as news coverage. Again, I know I don‟t have to say anything, but please remember that when you talk with or are near non-flyball people (even if your teammate has a double false start- save the flogging until you are in the crating area ). 9) Have fun! It‟s going to be an awesome tournament!! Schedule: Friday8:00pmVery late

Racing Info: To accommodate our friends from the north, warm-ups will be 2 minutes for the first race of each team and 90 seconds after that unless we get too far behind. The racing format will be 3/5 for all divisions. Ties will be decided by 1) head to head, 2) fastest time Division 1: Double round robin and double elimination Division 2: Double round robin Division 3: Triple round robin and single elimination Division 4: Triple round robin and single elimination Multi 1 & 2: Double round robin Elimination seeding will be based on round robin. For round robin, each race win will get one point and team with the most points wins. For the RR with elimination, final tournament placements will be the round robin plus the elimination. The placement for the round robin will be added to the placement for the elimination- and the team with the lowest combination will get first, second lowest, second, etc. Food and Fun Stuff: Bangor Tennis is cooking food all day at the snack bar, and we encourage you to visit them. There are many vendors and non-profit groups at this event- please shop! A list of them can be found on our webpage. There is an awesome raffle both days- my team really went over the top with this . Drawing will be around 3:30pm each day and we encourage you to look around (don‟t worry we will remind you again). One of our special raffle prizes is ticket vouchers for USAir!! Plus tons of other awesome stuff (believe me- all of us are drooling over the prizes). Pick up pre-ordered t-shirts at the raffle table area. There are a limited number of extra. Music is being provided all weekend by “Dangerous D‟ Davis” aka Eartha and Cosmo‟s dad. This is his debut as flyball DJ .
Reservations for dinner on Saturday night are at the Sea Dog Brewery. Pick up dinner „tickets‟ at the raffle table. To get there from the tournament site: Sea Dog is located at 26 Front Street in Bangor- near the intersection of Alt 1 and Front Street. Take Mecaw Rd to Rt 202, take a left onto Rt 202 take the 395 east to Brewer. Take Exit 3B Downtown Bangor. Follow ALT US 1 for 2 miles - sign for Waterfront Follow sign for Waterfront - turn right 3/10 mile - Sea Dog on the right overlooking the Penobscot River. Getting here: Directions are on our webpage, but again: Take I-95 to I-395 (towards Bangor/Brewer). Take exit 2 to highway 202 West. Follow 202 for 0.6 miles, and take a right on Mecaw Road. Bangor Tennis Club is less than a mile down the road on the right. Alternate directions from I-95 North: From I-95 North, take exit 180, take a right onto Coldbrook Rd and follow for approx. 1.7 miles to your first traffic light (rt. 202). Take a left onto Route 202 and go 2.7 miles to the Mecaw Rd on your left. Follow Mecaw Rd for 0.2 miles to the Bangor Tennis Club on the right. Check out our webpage because we have a link to the gas prices webpage (to watch for lowest prices). For those coming from the south- we recommend taking the I-295 bypass- its cheaper in tolls ($2.95 total, don‟t know what the I 95 tolls are, but they are more). And watch your gas tank- exits are further apart in Maine than in some other places. There are also some good restaurant recommendations. One good one is near Augusta- A1 Diner, where teammate Lisa Lane works (and she‟ll be there Friday night if you stop by on the way up). There is also a list of places to walk the dogs in Bangor and around (if you plan to stay a little longer, Seal Harbor is awesome- the borders‟ daily walking place- it has everything, water, hills, squirrels, fields). If you have any questions, problems, concerns, you get lost, anything- my (Monica‟s) cell number is 207-460-2916. I‟m not that good with directions, but could probably find someone who is.
