                     Creating Local Connections (CLC) Canada

Project Background

Creating Local Connections (CLC) Canada is a collaborative initiative aimed at promoting and
supporting youth participation in Canada. CLC Canada is a three-year program (2006-2009) of
TakingITGlobal with a goal of inspiring, informing, and involving youth as engaged participants in
Canadian society through: awareness and access, collaboration and communication, and capacity
building initiatives.

The project is implemented in partnership with the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation.

Core CLC Canada Team

The coordinating team is comprised of: CLC Canada National Project Coordinator, CLC
Communications Coordinator; CLC Regional Online Community Connectors (5); Aboriginal Youth
Engagement Coordinator; Francophone Youth Engagement Coordinator; and Provincial and
Territorial Volunteer Youth Engagement Coordinators (13). This core team is ultimately
responsible for the implementation and delivery of the CLC Canada program.

CLC Canada – British Columbia Youth Engagement Volunteer Coordinators:
   • The Provincial and Territorial Youth Engagement Coordinators are representatives of
      their respective youth communities, aimed at strengthening and supporting the CLC
      reach through local outreach initiatives.
   • Each Volunteer Youth Engagement Coordinator will be well supported by the CLC
      National Coordination Team.
   • Position will be partially based at partner organization in British Columbia
   • Volunteer position with monthly stipend, ranging from 200-400/mth, 10 - 15h/w
   • Nine month contract – Sept. 2008 to May 2009
   • Ability to travel within British Columbia

Core Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

Offline Engagement:
    • Work closely and co-facilitate with the Host Organization, the Alberta Youth Volunteer
        Organization
    • Represent TakingITGlobal and CLC Canada at 1 event/conference per month
    • Facilitate 3-5 workshops/year (i.e., Climate Change, Change That Clicks)
    • Facilitate 2 meetings with organizations/TIG members/youth groups
    • Coordinate and facilitate Open Forums on relevant local issues in schools, community
        centres, libraries and other relevant venues in conjunction with partner organizations

Team Communications:
   • Maintain communications with CLC team, and submit progress reports on a monthly
      basis.
   • Be an active TIG member and share CLC experiences with other TIG members on a
      monthly basis
    •   Must take part in monthly team conference calls and one-on-one check-ins with the CLC
        National Project Coordinator.

Related Skills and Experiences
   • Strong interest and experience in youth community development
   • An understanding of key youth issues in British Columbia
   • Understanding of and experience using online community tools
   • Experience (or great interest in) liaising with youth organizations
   • Ability to take initiative, respect accountability to leadership staff, and work well in team
       setting
   • Advanced presentation and facilitation skills
   • Self-motivated and highly organized
