Early Head Start/ Head Start
Dear Community sponsor:
The Adopt-A-Family Program takes place during the fall and winter holiday
season. Its purpose is to provide community businesses and/or individuals the opportunity
to support the most determined families in Early Head Start (EHS) and Head Start (HS)
who have encountered extraordinary challenges and/or life circumstances.
Annually in November, EHS/HS centers and site staff invite families to tell their
“story”. The community sponsors are offered the opportunity to read the stories and
select which family they would like to sponsor. Some community sponsors ask that
families meet specific criteria, which might include one or more of the following: family
size, geographical location, gender, ages of children, ethnicity, and/or the option to
personally deliver gifts to the family. Every effort will be made to match families with a
As soon as a family is selected by a community sponsor, a Family Development
Worker (FDW) will contact the community sponsor and serve as liaison to assist with any
specific questions or concerns about the selected family.
A donation form will be available to community sponsors for tax purposes.
