A Research Fellowship with the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group
Program Description: The Canadian Scleroderma Research Group is a consortium of 18 rheumatologists and
other researchers in Canada committed to Scleroderma research. Through our efforts, a large demographic,
clinical and biological database has been constituted on scleroderma patients from across the country. The
research fellow will become an expert on multiple aspects of Scleroderma. He /she will participate in basic
statistical and epidemiology courses at McGill University and will conduct research projects using the
information contained in the database. He/she will be based at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal where
he/she will see all the scleroderma patients referred from the McGill Network and collect prospectively a
predetermined set of clinical and biological data. He/she will become familiar with the process of data
acquisition, storage, retrieval and analysis. Statisticians and epidemiologists will be working closely with the
fellow to guide him/her through the techniques and pitfalls of mining large databases.
The fellow will further gain experience in leadership while helping to coordinate a large national
multidisciplinary research team including clinicians, epidemiologists, statisticians and basic scientists. The
fellow will participate in regular web teleconferences with the entire team and will help in the analysis of data
acquired from the other centers, especially in relationship to the various clinical and biochemical phenotypes.
The fellow will also have free access to the scientific activities and large intellectual resources of McGill
University and of its network of teaching hospitals.
Multiple basic scientists, epidemiologists and biostatisticians are part of this team. The involvement of
the fellow with these researchers presents a unique and exciting opportunity to work in a rapidly expanding
Fellowship Duration: 1 or 2 year program
Salary: The salary of the fellow will come from a training grant that we have received from the Canadian
