SAMPLE LETTER: THIRTY-DAY NOTICE OF MOVE-OUT

Dear Ms. Landlady,
This letter serves as thirty days written notice of our intention to vacate 333 Study Lane.
We will vacate on or before June 15, 2005. By then, my housemates and I will
thoroughly clean and return it to the condition specified in our move-in inventory
checklist (see attached). Please return 1/3 of the security deposit to me in care of my
parent’s address at 222 New Place, This City, CA 91111 within the timeframe allowed by
law. Please return 1/3 of the deposit to Sandy at 444 Another Place, That City, CA
92233 and Joe’s 1/3 to 555 Mom’s Place, Which City, CA 91111.

familiar with this new process required by law, you can get a copy of it from the

Note:
1. You can only give a 30-day notice if you have a month to month rental agreement.
2. If you have a lease, you can not give a 30-day notice to move out. However, read
your lease carefully. Many automatically turn into a month to month agreement when
they expire and do require a 30-day notification that you intend to move out at the
end of the original lease period.
