Example Orientation Letter for your Students

Welcome to the "Name of your Course” class. As you know, classes start on Tuesday, Jan. 20th. It's
time to buy your books for the course so that you're ready to begin on the first day of class. They are
available at the CSUMB Bookstore, (or state here if available online, etc.)
All materials for our class and other important information will be posted online and available 24 hours a
day, and may be accessed from anywhere you can access the web. Our course is hosted on iLearn, our
campus’ version of the Moodle open-source Course Management System. Please log into iLearn today
to ensure that your computer will be able to function correctly to do required activities for the course

Use your same OtterID log-in and password as for FirstClass or logging onto campus lab computers.

NOTE: Mozilla Firefox (not Internet Explorer) is the recommended browser for full functionality.
You can use any browser to read most materials and assignments...but you may not be able to post to
forums, or take tests, or do some other functions with other browsers.
To test that your browser is set up correctly, click on the Check Browser link located on the iLearn Home
Page and perform any suggested changes.
Tech Phone Help: If you have any problems logging into iLearn, call the Help Desk at 582-4357
between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
Drop-In Tech Workshops: During the first two weeks of the new semester, there will also be
drop-in technology workshops conducted by the Center for Academic Technologies (CAT) to help
you learn how to use iLearn and other campus technologies, such as FirstClass.

When: Noon-1:00 pm
I will be using FirstClass to send out important e-mails to you. Please make sure you check your
FirstClass account regularly.
