Is Starting A Home Business Right For You?
Realities Of Starting A Home Business
When I first started looking for a home business opportunity, I did not sit down and make a
plan how working a full time job plus a home business would work. All I knew was I needed
something to supplement my income to help pay the bills. I never thought that starting a home
based business would require any work at all. I thought all I had to do was find a business
opportunity like an affiliate business where I market someone else’ product, build a website, or
use the one they use and put my name to it and let it do its thing and make money for me.
That’s how I thought it worked. Boy, was I wrong!
I never planned how I would fund my home business if there were start up costs involved
because for folks, like me, money is already tight and having to sacrifice money to start
something with an uncertain future is a huge gamble. Nonetheless, I found that I had to
sacrifice play money or set back a bill for a month, so I made the sacrifice. Many people don’t
start a home business because of this very fact. They are so excited to get started but lack the
start up costs, and who has $400 to $1,000 dollars laying around that you can borrow? I have to
let you know that you will have to sacrifice something. Some top earners in the home business
industry have sacrificed all their money to get started. I know reading that is hard to fathom
given the fact that we also have families to support. So what I did was hold onto my full time
job till my home business got started and was making just as much money as I was making at
my full time job. At that point is when I finally let go of my old job and jumped into my home
business full time. By starting my home business in this way allowed me to bring in the
guaranteed income and still continue building my business part time. Many people think that
most home based businesses are get rich quick schemes. Building a solid home based business
takes time, dedication, and persistence. Remember that this is your business and no one is
going to build it for you, so how much time you dedicate to it is going to determine your
success and how much money you make. Hopefully, you will have support and mentorship to
help you along the way but again, how big and how successful your business depends on you.
Here is the reality of everything when building a home business. First, you have to sacrifice
money. If you can’t handle the start up costs out of your own pocket, you will need to borrow
from a bank, finance company, or personal friend. If you are single with no family to support, I
feel, you are in a better position to sacrifice something. But if you are married or single with
kids, you will need some sort of financial plan, depending on the business you choose to do
from home. But do not lose sight of the fact that this is a business. You are not looking for
charity, you are looking for money to start a business.
Secondly, you have to sacrifice time. I have found that in building my business, I sacrificed a lot
of family time to get my business started. Yes, while still working my full time job, I sacrificed
time in the evenings with my family, going to town, cookouts, movies, and time with my wife, I
sacrificed it all! Was it worth it? Damn right it was, because today, I don’t have to get up at
O’dark thirty to get ready for work, I don’t have to answer to anyone, I don’t have to drive
anywhere to get to work, and I don’t have to worry about how much leave or sick days I have to
take time off. Now, all I worry about is what I am going to do with my free time. Oh, and by the
way, my wife loves all our time together now.
Whatever your family situation is when starting a home business, YOU WILL have to sacrifice
time and money to get it started and get it going. That is the reality of it.
