Re: Reviewing your pension scheme benefits

During the discussions that that I have had with you recently, you revealed that you have
benefits in one or more pension schemes. There are many different types of pension scheme
and the benefits available can vary dramatically from one scheme to another.

Work-based pension schemes can provide much more than a retirement pension for you.
They may also provide a tax-free lump sum, dependants' benefits, ill-health, early and late
payment options. Each of these affect areas of financial advice that I have either discussed
with you already – or that I may be about to discuss with you.

I have recommended that you review your pension benefits for a variety of reasons. My
review would include investigating your pension benefits as they relate to all aspects of your
personal circumstances. I would also look at any changes that may have occurred resulting
from recent legislation, including A-Day (the so called ‘pension simplification’ changes), Civil
Partnerships and Age Discrimination, some of which may affect you.

My examination would highlight the strengths and weaknesses of your pension benefits
which would reveal and allow you to plug any gaps in your future planning that appear from
the review.

You have explained to me that you do not want me to undertake a review of your pension
benefits at this time. I would take this opportunity to remind you that this is contrary to my
advice. However, I respect your wishes and will record this action on my files. You are of
course always welcome to discuss a review of your pension benefits with me at any time in
the future when I shall be happy to assist you.
