A brief summary of REAL Peers is attached. The benefits to your chapter members include: 1. An opportunity to learn more about REAL Peers. 2. An opportunity to participate in the first component of REAL Peers training. 3. An opportunity to complete self-assessments of their interactions with others in a decision-making environment. 4. The opportunity to put into practice (perhaps in their capacity as a student leader in your chapter) what they learn from this training session. 5. Free food. :) Music Festival David Amram Presents No More Walls: Bridging the Gap between the Arts, Humanities and Sciences Through Music; An inter-disciplinary program series with live music. An Evening Affair with music including improvising with students and some jazz poetry readings from selections of Kerouac’s works which Kerouac and Amram pioneered fifty one years ago at New York City's first/ever public jazz/poetry readings. When? Thursday, April 3 - Reflection Pond, 7:00 PM—this event is free and open to the general public. Black and Gold Spring Football Game The Black and Gold Game (spring football scrimmage) is slated for 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Bright House Stadium. Attendance for this event is not known at this time, but may be in the range of 10,00015,000 people. Tailgating will be allowed, but only in the surface parking lots near the stadium (the E parking lots) from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm. Tailgating will not be permitted on other areas of campus. The UCF PD is crafting an enforcement plan. There will be signs at Memory Mall and police visibility in that area due to other events on campus that day. Student organizations wanting to do something different must submit (and have approved) the appropriate forms. Generic social forms will likely not be approved (unless the organization is doing something for a specific reason.) As always, chapters, alumni, etc. are expected to uphold all national and university social/risk management policies. Risk Management Programs This is just a friendly reminder that each chapter must hold a risk management workshop for your members as required in the Standards of Excellence. The Alcohol and Other Drug office can provide free, interactive and fun programs for your chapter including Greek 101 and AOD for Greeks. For more information please visit www.realproject.sdes.ucf.edu Active Shooter Training UCF police will be scheduling an active shooter training simulation tentatively on Friday, April 14. They will be supported by a federal agency, SABB, that uses extensive technology and instrumentation to learn from the experience. They will need between 20-30 students to participate in the exercise every hour from 912 and 1-3. Debriefing for both the police and the participants will occur after the incident. Waivers will need to be signed by all participants and the exercise will occur in Research Park. Volunteers will need to dress in long sleeves, long pants and have closed shoes. Women Scholarship The Florida Executive Women (FEW) scholarship fund supports the educational development of outstanding women in Central Florida. -Must be a junior or senior level female student. -Must be a full-time resident of Orange, Seminole, Brevard, Lake, Volusia, or Osceola County. -Must have a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of at least 3.0 -Must have financial need of at least $2000. -Must complete the application package which includes Personal information/financial need verification Essay on personal goals and future plans Three recommendation forms with specific directions -Obtain official transcript(s) from college(s) attended and enclose with application. DEADLINE: 04/25/2008 all applications must be complete and postmarked by this date. For an application, please visit the Student Financial Assistance website. Volunteer Opportunities A Cornerstone service-learning project this semester is to find and coordinate 200 volunteers for the JCC Family Festival on April 13th, 2008. It is going to be a great event and the more help the merrier. We are currently looking for volunteers for 2 upcoming events. - We need a group to help paint a school for children with learning disabilities. The school will supply all the resources and refreshments. This is a great opportunity for a group of any size to make a big difference in the community. The school will work with you to set a date for this project. - On April 13th there is a Family Festival at Lake Eola. We are looking for about 200 volunteers for this event. This is an excellent opportunity for two or more chapters to work together, or for a council to plan a service event. We invite you to join us if you are able. In its seventh year, the Eternal Knights program honors UCF students who have passed away during the last year. This ceremony enables families who have lost a son or daughter to join with campus leaders and members of the UCF community in a solemn tribute to their loved ones. Leaders of Tomorrow The Corporate & Enterprise (C&E) Campus Recruiting and C&E Office of Diversity & Inclusion are launching The Leaders of Tomorrow Academy, a new initiative targeted to diverse sophomores to engage them earlier in their undergraduate career. The Leaders of Tomorrow Academy is a 2-day program that will allow students to develop their leadership skills while they learn about the different opportunities in Corporate & Enterprise. At the end of the program, selected students will have the opportunity to interview for an internship for 2009. We would like your help in marketing the program to talented sophomores that are interested in the following areas:CFO, Operations, Technology and Research.
