La Canada Junior Baseball and Softball Association
ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL PROSPECTIVE MANAGERS AND COACHES: CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED FOR 2009 SEASON
Beginning in 2008, the Southern California Amateur Softball Association (the governing body for LCJBSA softball) began requiring criminal background checks on all softball managers and coaches. That requirement remains for the 2009 season.
For the sake of uniformity and the protection of LCJBSA players, LCJBSA will require that all managers and coaches for the 2009 season, for both softball and baseball teams, be subject to a criminal background check. All that sign-up to manage or coach a team will be required to provide certain information necessary for LCJBSA to conduct a criminal background check.
LCJBSA will soon post on its website further information about background checks. We will also post a copy of the new LCJBSA policy regarding background checks which will describe, among other things: • The events that will be grounds for disqualification • The method of review • Confidentiality of background check results • How results will be communicated to prospective coaches • Rights to appeal
We are proud to be taking this significant step towards LCJBSA’s highest priority: the safety of the children that play on LCJBSA teams.
