Aim of the Summer School:
The aim is to promote shared learning about the multiple and changing determinants of well-being
affecting our elderly population.

Learning outcomes:
Participants will be able to
- increase awareness of the common challenges and solutions
- strengthen the establishment of multi-cultural learning environment and network
- develop learning foundation for multi-professional planning and implementation for health promotion

Main contents:
The contents of the Summer School will be focused on promotion of well-being of senior citizens and
elderly people.

Working format:
The Summer School will consist of the distance learning phase (1 ECTS) and summer school phase (2
ECTS), in total 3 ECTS. The virtual learning environment will be established for the participants in
February 2010. During the distance learning phase the participants will prepare a presentation focusing
on their national challenges and opportunities. During the summer school phase the participants will
share the experience by using participatory methods.

The language of the course is English, and simultaneous translation will be not provided.

Participants:
The students (2-4 students/school) and teachers (1-2 teachers/school) may come from all fields of health
care (nursing, public health, physiotherapy, occupational therapy) and social services. The budget allows
providing lunch for all participants during the study days and some assistance for students’
accommodation fee.

Participation should be confirmed by December 31, 2009.

The town Lappeenranta (www.lappeenranta.fi) is located 220 km south-east from Helsinki. The travel
