On Sunday, 6 April, from 2:00 until 6:00 PM in the Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Programming Office, two (2) of our students (and our co-researchers on the REAL Peers project), Kyla Tan and Matthew Harris, will facilitate a pilot of the first component of REAL Peers training. A brief summary of REAL Peers is attached. The benefits to your chapter members include: 1. An opportunity to learn more about REAL Peers. 2. An opportunity to participate in the first component of REAL Peers training. 3. An opportunity to complete self-assessments of their interactions with others in a decision-making environment. 4. The opportunity to put into practice (perhaps in their capacity as a student leader in your chapter) what they learn from this training session. 5. Free food. :)
Risk Management Programs
This is just a friendly reminder that each chapter must hold a risk management workshop for your members as required in the Standards of Excellence. The Alcohol and Other Drug office can provide free, interactive and fun programs for your chapter including Greek 101 and AOD for Greeks. For more information please visit www.realproject.sdes.ucf.edu
Active Shooter Training
UCF police will be scheduling an active shooter training simulation tentatively on Friday, April 4. They will be supported by a federal agency, SABB, that uses extensive technology and instrumentation to learn from the experience. They will need between 20-30 students to participate in the exercise every hour from 912 and 1-3. Debriefing for both the police and the participants will occur after the incident. There will also be a briefing time scheduled the day before so that volunteers will understand their roles and safety issues. Waivers will need to be signed by all participants and the exercise will occur in Research Park. Volunteers will need to dress in long sleeves, long pants and have closed shoes. If you are interested please sign up at the front desk in F & SL.
Victim Services Training: March 28 and 29th
Victim Services is hosting a free workshop which will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about victimization, common reactions, crisis intervention, sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, stalking, and the services that are offered by our department. A certificate of completion will be given to those who complete both days of training. Don't miss this great opportunity! No previous courses or workshops are necessary in order to participate in this training. There are only 50 seats available so you must preregister at: UCF.edu/victimservices. The registration deadline is Friday, March 21st.
