’Acoustics: Science and Technology for knowledge based society and healthy environment’
-
The conscious preservation of the acoustic quality of our environment demands global solutions, not only because of the effects, but also because of the global growth of human habits and noise sources.
The organisers of the FORUM ACUSTICUM 2005 International Conference want to establish the best possible conditions for the presentation of a wide range of problems and results within this complex process. More than 40 structured sessions in various fields of acoustics will be organised. The Technical Committees of EAA will hold open discussion meetings and offer platforms for co-operation. We welcome you, our colleagues and friends working in the different fields of acoustics, to the FORUM ACUSTICUM 2005 Congress in Hungary with great pleasure and honour. You are invited to present your results, new methods, products, and procedures; discuss important, conceptual conclusions; and in the meantime, enjoy the abundant opportunities that are offered by the rich cultural life, architectural and historical treasures; as well as the recreational, folk art, and culinary opportunities available to all of our guests in the city of Budapest. Yours faithfully

2nd Announcement and Call for Papers
INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE
Dear Colleagues and Friends, The history of the development of the Science of Acoustics also reflects the development of natural sciences, economics and human society. We can marvel at the wonders of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages with pleasure, and these masterpieces of art can still be used today either in their original condition or after reconstruction. But with the development of modern science in the 18th century, industrialisation, urbanisation, and the demand for mobility brought numerous challenges and tasks to solve regarding acoustics. The acoustic quality of the human environment became an acknowledged environmental and human factor, as well as an aspect with economic influence; Throughout this period, acoustics have developed direct and growing connections with the fields of engineering as well as the natural and social sciences, the centre of which has always been the quality of human life; The demand for good quality communication signals and clear transmission of acoustic information became common;

THE VENUE OF THE CONGRESS
The Congress will be held in Budapest, the flowering busy capital of Hungary between 29 August and 2 September, 2005. The pre-congress EAA meetings will be held at the Novotel Budapest Congress Centre (address: Budapest XII., Alkotás street 63-67.).

-
The opening ceremony and the welcome reception will take place in the newly built, modern Palace of Arts (address: Budapest IX., Komor Marcell street 1.) in the afternoon of 29 August, 2005.
Over 40 structured sessions - from architectural acoustics, through environmental noise and vibration control, musical acoustics, physiological, psychological and bioacoustics to wave based calculation methods in acoustics will be frames to present new results in theory, measurement, planning and the effects of acoustical phenomena on human beings.
SCIENTIFIC TOURS
The “Békésy Memorial Tour” is one of the most interesting options among the scientific tours. The museum exhibits include, among other things, part of the Nobel Prize winner scientist's laboratory in Honolulu, where he worked during the last years of his life. Visitors can also see the famous 6th radio studio, which was designed by G. Békésy and E. Dohnányi using purely empirical methods in the early 1930s. The venue of the scientific program and exhibition (30 August – 2 September, 2005) is the new Lágymányos Campus, Northern Block of the Eötvös Lorand University of Science, between Petõfi Bridge and Lágymányos Bridge along the Danube (address: Budapest XI., Pázmány Péter promenade 1/C)

(Fizikai Szemle 1999/5. 166.o.) PROGRAMS FOR ACCOMPANYING GUESTS
A guided tour to the medieval city of Szentendre and a visit to the Central Market Hall in Budapest, as well as a cooking course are recommended at the top of the list. Walking along the narrow streets of Szentendre and visiting the Margit Kovács ceramics museum are really worth our guests’ attention. After visiting the beautifully reconstructed building of the Central Market Hall, guests can try their luck at preparing traditional Hungarian dishes. They can also taste the results, of course.
THE SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
The scientific program of the international congress covers all the main topics of acoustics. The plenary lectures will be held by leading scientists of Europe focusing on exciting subjects, and analysing connections between independently developed areas: – H. Batard, (Development of the Quiet Aircraft) – J. Blauert, (Auditory Communication: The Precedence Effect) – P. Brüel, (50 Years Acoustics in Europe) – S. Elliott, (Analogies to the Human Auditory Mechanism…) – G. Gordos, (Speech and Speech Technologies) – T. Kihlman, (Developments in Environmental Noise Policies ) and – G. Theile (Spatial Audio, Pros and Cons of Stereophony, … ) The round table discussions, organised by F. Fahy (Experiments versus Simulation in Acoustic Engineering ) and B. Schulte-Fortkamp (Noise Metrics versus dBA ) will serve as excellent forums to discuss general, conceptual questions in acoustics.
OPTIONAL PROGRAMS
Before, during and after the congress, the organisers offer several optional programs, such as - the Balaton - Herend tour, a visit to Lake Balaton, the "Hungarian Sea" and the world famous porcelain factory - the traditional Puszta tour - a guided sightseeing tour of Budapest - a cruise on the Danube
