Pijanowski, Krzysztof Świerczek Conference aim and scope The cultural landscapes of Central Europe are endangered mainly due to poor spatial economies and socio-economic processes. In Poland, the main threats also include chaotic building development and abandonment of activities leading to the structural reorganisation of agricultural production areas. It is therefore unquestionable that a change of approach towards landscape protection and development needs to take place. Practical experiences of some European countries illustrate that it is possible to protect cultural landscapes through active processes of landscape shaping if local communities, local and regional authorities actively cooperate with each other. The project CULTURAL LANDSCAPE aimed at creating guidelines for realising such an approach towards cultural landscape development and protection in the entire CADSES area, as a contribution to the process of implementation of the European Landscape Convention. The Conference will present the results worked out with the view of realising thus formulated project aim as well as results of research and implementation activities conducted by particular partners within the project.
