                     POSITION TITLE:                     Entomologist
                     Pay Level & Step:                   32/01 – 35/12
                        Annual Salary:                   $28,803.12 - $51,330.35 (12-month)
                              Location:                  As Terlaje Campus, Saipan
              Opening Date: 12/16/2008                   Closing Date: 12/31/2008 or Until Filled

Nature of the Position: The position is located on Saipan, CNMI. The appointment is 75% agricultural
research, and 25% agricultural extension and outreach. This position is charged with the responsibility of
assisting CREES in fulfilling its mission by providing the following performance responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Participates in Program Review and Outcome Assessment (PROA) activities
• Provides high quality services to students and the community.
• Identify and diagnose important pest problems of farmers.
• Establish research and extension program priorities based on needs assessments.
• Prepare grant proposals.
• Develop and implement a 5 Year Plan of Work based on USDA-CSREES National Goals and
   stakeholder input.
• Develop and implement a yearly Work Plan.
• Implement, evaluate, and interpret research, extension, and other activities; working with clientele,
   advisory groups, and other agencies and organizations.
• Assist with the Pesticide Safety Education Program.
• Participate in the CREES Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program; help to plan the IPM
   extension program; manage ongoing activities and other IPM projects; help plan and implement new
   and ongoing IPM research projects important to CNMI vegetable and fruit growers.
• Work cooperatively with CREES research and extension staff to carry out required experimental
   studies; collect, records and analyze data; disseminate information generated by research through
   extension publications.
• Assist with the planning and implementation of an effective public relations program to promote
   CREES extension and research programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in entomology or other closely related fields plus five (5) years experience in Integrated
Pest Management (IPM), implementing IPM on farmers’ fields, using IPM on vegetables. Must have
experience in research, including the ability to conduct applied research. Must have experience in
pesticide application and pesticide safety.

Desirable Qualifications:
   • Knowledge and experience in tropical or semi-tropical agriculture.
   • Demonstrated ability to secure grants and funding from outside sources.
   • Evidence of positive team interactions and ability to adapt successfully within a multi-cultural and
       multi-ethnic community.
