                         Assistant Professor of Piano


POSITION: Assistant Professor of Piano, tenure-track position in the School of Music. Salary is
commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BEGINNING DATE: August 2009

QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctoral or terminal degree in piano performance required by the time of appointment. Candidates
must demonstrate evidence of the highest level of piano performance, teaching skills, and an
extensive knowledge in piano literature. Significant college-university teaching experience is also
required. Pre-employment background checks are required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach undergraduate and graduate piano students (majors and secondaries). Solo performance is
expected. Engage in collaborative performances, chamber music and other recitals. Continue to
recruit and build a studio of undergraduate and graduate piano majors. Actively participate in
service activities. Teach related piano and/or other courses depending upon departmental need and
area(s) of expertise.

DEPARTMENT:
The School of Music (www.uni.edu/music) includes 36 full-time and 10 adjunct faculty members, and
approximately 300 undergraduate and graduate majors. It is fully accredited by the National
Association of Schools of Music and offers the following degrees: B.A. (Music); B.M. (Music Education,
Composition-Theory, and Performance); M.M. (Music Education, Performance, Conducting,
Composition, Music History, Piano Performance and Pedagogy, and Jazz Pedagogy); and M.A. (liberal
arts). Housed in the newly renovated Russell Hall and the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts
Center, the School of Music has a successful and outstanding faculty with active teaching, research,
service, and performance portfolios. The Piano Division consists of two additional full-time
colleagues (applied piano and collaborative/group piano) and two part-time instructors (group and
collaborative piano).
