The School Board of Orange County Public Schools invites applications and nominations for the position of Superintendent. The anticipated date of hire is July 1, 2009.
THE COUNTY
Orange County is a rural area, approximately 341 squares miles, with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and home to much history. Located in the north-central Piedmont region of Virginia and conveniently located to Washington D.C. (85 miles) and Charlottesville (25 miles) with an easy drive to Richmond.
THE SCHOOLS
Orange County is home to 5 elementary schools, 2 middle (1 additional under construction), and 1 high school. The student enrollment of approximately 5127 is supported by 893 staff members. The 2007-2008 operating budget was $44,538,799.
QUALIFICATIONS • • • • • • • Prior experience as a superintendent, assistant/associate superintendent, or central office administrator. Desired background should also include experience as a principal and teacher; Doctorate preferred. Understands complex financial programs, facility planning, and capital improvement. Familiar with Virginia’s Standards of Learning as well as the process of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation. Must perform certain duties prescribed by law and by regulations of the State Board of Education. Ability to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect by maintaining open channels of communication on both private and public levels. Brings to the position enthusiasm, consistency, and the ability to listen while supporting a safe and positive environment for students and staff. Provide leadership in the development of action plans to achieve goals and objectives. Qualification for the Eligibility List of Superintendents in Virginia. The candidate selected for the position must agree to become a resident of Orange County within 1 year after assuming the duties of the position.
SALARY Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
