SPORTSMANSHIP ANNOUNCEMENTS Good sportsmanship is valued by the _______________ Community Schools. W e are pleased you chose to support your team this evening. Please do so by refraining from negative yells or comments directed at athletes, coaches, fans, and officials or other negative acts. __________________ Community Schools encourages positive sportsmanship and behavior at the meet tonight. Please encourage your athletes and coaches with positive comments and acts. What you do and say during the contest reflects on your team, school and community. Enjoy the meet by being a good sport. __________________ Community Schools supports the Conduct Counts programs initiated by our state associations. Good sportsmanship is a priority at high school events. Negative comments and acts directed toward athletes, coaches, fans, or officials are unacceptable in this educational environment. Be a good sport for your school and community. __________________ Community Schools reminds you that you are in a Good Sportsmanship Zone. No negative chants, yells, comments or acts directed at athletes, coaches, fans or officials are tolerated. They are a basis for removal. Conduct does Count. Do not embarrass your team, school and community by behaving in a negative manner. The Iowa High School Athletic Association urges your cooperation in making this meet a memorable experience for your players and coaches. Don’t confuse supporting your team with negative cheers directed at the opponent or booing the decisions of the officials. Those actions cause your team and school to be seen in a negative light. The athletes competing in this contest have trained many hours. They have earned your respect and applause. Your positive behavior will earn their respect for you. Conduct Counts in Iowa and its starts with you. Enjoy today’s meet. Good sportsmanship starts with respect . . . for yourself, your team, the opponent and the decisions of the officials. Great fans are enthusiastic for their team and sportsmanlike with their behavior toward the opponent and the decisions of the officials. W e congratulate the teams and athletes competing today. This meet provides each of us with an opportunity to demonstrate how much we appreciate their efforts and dedication. Together we can set the standard for Good Sportsmanship. SPORTSMANSHIP ANNOUNCEMENTS #1 - W here are the roots of sportsmanship traced? It all starts with the word "respect." Respect for opponents, coaches, spectators, and game officials. Respect results in good sports and establishes the human touch in sportsmanship. The Iowa High School Athletic Association reminds you to display good sportsmanship whenever you attend an athletic event. #2 - Admission to an interscholastic athletic event is a privilege. With that privilege comes responsibility...responsibility to conduct oneself in a manner where the contest is enjoyable for all fans and participants. The Iowa High School Athletic Association reminds you that good sports are winners.... on the mat and in the stands. #3 - The dictionary defines sportsmanship as playing fair and being a good winner and loser. W e often forget the importance of being gracious in victory. The Iowa High School Athletic Association reminds us that good sportsmanship gives us the standard to follow at all times. #4 - W e are constantly exposed to examples of poor sportsmanship. That is why the Iowa High School Athletic Association has initiated a sportsmanship campaign called, "good sports are winners." Good sportsmanship stresses positive values that are so important to the development of our leaders of tomorrow. The Iowa High School Athletic Association reminds us to set a good example by displaying good sportsmanship every time you attend an athletic event. #5 - Ethics, integrity, and respect are values important in all our daily lives. In athletics, those values are translated into the word sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is one of the strongest educational lessons and lifetime values taught through interscholastic athletics. The Iowa High School Athletic Association reminds you that sportsmanship is the human touch in athletics. #6 - An educational environment is critical to the success of high school athletics. An important part of that environment is planning for good sportsmanship. Without good sportsmanship during athletic contests, the educational lessons learned quickly lose their value. The Iowa High School Athletic Association reminds you that when you attend an interscholastic event you are really inside a classroom where good sports receive the highest grades.
