Second Meeting of the Integrated Control of Plant Feeding Mites Work Group March 9th-12th, 2009 Florence, Italy

February 2008 Dear Colleagues, Our new working group includes acarologists working on all aspects of plant feeding mites occurring on different cropping systems. Our general aim is to bring together students, researchers and company representatives dealing with all aspects of integrated and biological control of plant feeding mites, in order to discuss approaches that can be taken to increase control efficacy. The meeting will start on the evening of Monday March 9th with a light refreshment mixer. This will be followed by 3 days of sessions which will include an excursion with farewell dinner. While we are hoping to hear many interesting oral presentations, we will also have a small poster session and ample time will be devoted for discussions. As usual all papers will be published in the IOBC/WPRS Bulletin. Site of the Meeting The meeting venue is the Experimental Institute for Agricultural Zoology, located on the outskirts of Florence and the home of the Berlese collection, clearly an historical land mark for acarologists. Florence is the capital city of the spectacular region of Tuscany, lies on the Arno river and was the centre of medieval European trade and finance, long ruled by the Medici family. Florence is considered the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and is famous for its magnificent art, architecture and scientific accomplishments. The city has a delightful atmosphere and promises to be exciting for the novice and experienced traveller. The local organizing committee along with the work group convener are committed to do their best to make the Second Meeting of the Integrated Control of Plant Feeding Mites Work Group a scientifically stimulating and enjoyable event!
