Off campus access – Staff only
Staff can use the Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access & run scholarly resources
from off campus, by allowing off-campus users to login to university services as if
they were on campus. The VPN site (http://www.infodiv.unimelb.edu.au/vpn/)
provides documentation & the VPN client installer. Please read the information on the
VPN site carefully before installing the client.
Once installed, you will need to 'turn on' VPN each time you wish to use the service.
You should see a lock icon in your systems tray. Click on this to open the VPN dialog
box, click on the 'connect' button & login using your central email
username/password. Once VPN has been activated you can run services such as the
SciFinder Scholar client from off-campus.

If you have any trouble using the service see the troubleshooting and FAQ pages on
the VPN site. Some ISP's such as Telstra broadband cable require additional (but
once-off) customisation.
