    Enhancing the Digest
      1. How should the college seek ideas from the campus community to enhance the Digest?
      2. It was suggested that a survey be created to ask the college community “What do you use the Digest for?” and “What suggestions do
you have for enhancing the Digest?”

    Strategic Technology Objectives
       1. Review of Proposed Strategic Technology Objectives
           • Maintain and Enhance Information Technology Accessibility
The College will provide students, faculty, and staff with access to current computers and software, and to appropriate technology
services and capabilities. The College will develop a reliable and adequate technology infrastructure to support the development
and delivery of information / instructional technology services and resources.
           • Develop Technology Experienced Faculty, Staff, and Students
The College will provide appropriate faculty, staff, and student training and support services to enhance the understanding and use
               of technology.
           • Provide Technology Enhanced Education
The College will establish appropriate levels of technology in campus classrooms and computer labs. The College will provide
assistance to faculty in instructional design and the integration of technology in teaching.
           • Improve College Business Operations
New information systems will be implemented to improve the operations of the College and to provide greater access for students,
faculty, and staff to information and services. Information systems will be leveraged to enhance College planning and operational
               decisions.
       2. Provide a presentation to ITAG outlining initiatives that will be completed to address the Strategic Technology Objectives
    March 26, 2003 12

Pay for Print
   1. How should the college address the escalating cost of paper, toners, and maintenance?
   2. What should the college do to address printer abuse?
   3. Should the college continue to provide printing for free for students?
   4. Should we charge for printing?
   5. Should we change for printing over a certain usage per month?
   6. Is there funding available through the Student Government Association so that students do not need to be charged for printing?
   7. Should funding for campus printers come from a single budget?
   8. The Pharos Uniprint Solution (http://www.pharos.com/Products/Uniprint.asp) works with the college integrates with the college’s
Blackboard Transaction System One Card. A demonstration of the software could be scheduled for a future ITAG meeting.
   9. What is the strategy of other colleges and universities with respect to printing?
   10. Gunther Gullickson will speak to students to seek their ideas and suggestions for addressing the rising costs and printer abuse
   11. The college should explore how other colleges and universities address this issue

Information Technology Update
   1. Information System Request for Proposal
Open campus meeting was held to:
      • Discuss the Need for Confidentiality
      • Discuss the campus software demonstrations
      • Compare and contrast Datatel and SCT PowerCampus
      • Discuss the benefits of the new system
      • To review the goals and objectives of the new system
      • Review the problems with the AIMS Software
      • Discuss next steps

   2. Telephone Problems
The campus telephone infrastructure connects buildings to the main telephone system through a series of duct bank that are
interconnected through manholes. Manholes on campus were flooded with water as a result of the melting snow that damaged
telephone cabling that provide service to Meyerhoff, Dorsey, and the Alumnae/I House. One of the manholes contained a splice can
whose waterproof seal was damaged. The splice can is used to cover and protect spliced telephone cable.

   3. GNAV
      • GNAV will be available for the submission of Spring grades
      • An interface program is being finalized and tested to load course information, faculty information, and student information from
the AIMS Student Information System directly to the Blackboard Course Management System. Currently a nightly load is run to
load information from AIMS to GNAV and a nightly load is run to load GNAV to Blackboard.
      • When the Spring Semester has ended, the new Mailing List software has been implemented, and the AIMS to Blackboard interface
has been completed, GNAV will be retired.

   4. CampusWeb
      • Final issues are being resolved
      • The production environment for CampusWeb is being finalized
      • CampusWeb documentation and reference material for the campus community is being finalized
      • Training for the Help Desk is being completed so that the Help Desk can address and solve any password or operational problems
        with CampusWeb
      • The Information Technology Web site will be updated with information on CampusWeb
      • Links on the campus web site will need to be changed from GNAV to CampusWeb
      • Links on the campus web site for course descriptions and the schedule of classes will need to be changed to point to CampusWeb
      • The availability of CampusWeb will be announced to the campus
      • Testing is being planned for submitting grades through CampusWeb
      • Testing is being planned for testing online web registration for students

   5. One Card System
At the last ITAG meeting, a question was asked: "Can the One Card System readers be connected to the network rather than require
special One Card wiring and cabling?"

Currently only the vending machine readers are able to hook directly to the One Card System through the campus network
infrastructure. Blackboard is currently working on providing copy readers with the ability to connect to the network infrastructure.
March 26, 2003 14
                                            Information Technology Advisory Group (ITAG)

Providing network connectivity for Security/Door readers will occur after the copy readers. In order to hook up a security reader right
now through the network infrastructure, we would need to purchase an IP (Internet Protocol) converter that costs about $1,000 to
$1,500. This simply connects multiple devices to the network. Special cabling is still required from the reader to the IP converter.
