TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor Focus on Cultural and Linguistic Diversity TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation is seeking outstanding candidates to fill a tenure track assistant/associate professor position with a focus on culturally and linguistically diverse students with disabilities. THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation offers degree programs at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. The bachelors program prepares graduates to teach students with mild/moderate disabilities, severe disabilities, and/or young children with disabilities. The department has three masters programs: Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education, and Master of Rehabilitation Counseling (M.R.C.). The department sponsors a doctoral (Ph.D.) program in Disability Disciplines which includes specializations in (1) special education, (2) applied behavior analysis, (3) rehabilitation counseling, (4) speech and language pathology, and (5) disability studies. The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation is recognized nationally for its personnel preparation and research. The department faculty, along with colleagues from the universityaffiliated Center for Persons with Disabilities, have a well-established record of obtaining research and training grants, national and international consulting, editorial work on national journals, and participation in professional organizations. The Department is ranked in the top 20 nationally in both Special Education and Rehabilitation (US News and World Report for 2009). THE COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY Utah State University (USU), a land-grant university, is a Carnegie Research Extensive Institution, a designation held by only 3% of universities in the United States. Faculty members at USU rank among the top ten in the United States for per capita research dollars generated. Enrollment (undergraduate and graduate students) exceeds 25,000. There are 47 departments in seven academic colleges and a School of Graduate Studies offering 38 doctoral and 95 master's degree programs. USU has a national and international reputation for its education, agricultural, engineering, and forestry academic programs. USU is especially well known for disability-related research and development that reflects work within several academic departments and The Center for Persons with Disabilities. The Center for Persons with Disabilities, a Center of Excellence sponsored by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities in the U.S. Department of Education, houses disability projects budgeted at over 12 million dollars annually. The College of Education and Human Services is ranked 3rd nationally in external funding with over $34 million in external grants and contracts (US News and World Report for 2009). It is one of the largest colleges of education in the nation, with six departments, a School of Teacher Education and Leadership, an elementary laboratory school, over 115 tenure-track faculty, and hundreds of research-supported employees. THE REGIONAL CAMPUS & DISTANCE EDUCATION SYSTEM Utah State University's regional campuses and distance education (RCDE) has pioneered technologyenhanced education in support of the University's land grant mission. The system reaches students throughout Utah using a variety of technologies and extension site facilities. Course offerings in multiple programs lead to undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as certificates and endorsements. RANK/SALARY Assistant/Associate Professor. Salary is competitive based on qualifications. An excellent fringe benefit package is provided that includes medical and disability insurance and retirement benefits that amount to approximately one third of salary. Responsibilities Serve as a member of the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation faculty; this entails: 1. Developing an active line of research 2. Teaching on-campus and distance undergraduate and graduate classes 3. Supervising practica and student teaching 4. Advising and mentoring graduate students 5. Participating in departmental and university program development and committees 6. Collaborating with other departmental faculty in writing grants for extramural funding Minimum Qualifications 1. Doctorate (ABD will be considered) in special education or related field 2. Direct service experience with students with disabilities 3. A history of positive working relationships with teachers, administrators, and faculty 4. Evidence of the potential to be a productive scholar and researcher 5. Evidence of the potential to be an excellent college-level teacher 6. Focus on culturally and linguistically diverse students with disabilities Preferred Qualifications 1. Evidence of potential for securing external funds 2. At least two years of public school special education teaching experience 3. Experience in technology-enhanced college teaching and electronic distance education (online and videoconferencing delivery models) 4. Experience developing and/or coordinating graduate programs in special education 5.
