A Message from David L. Wray,
PSCA President
Something wonderful is happening in America. We are living longer and healthier lives.
However, this longer, healthy living requires that we have significant financial resources.
Fortunately, America’s employers are rising to the challenge. Every year, a greater and
greater number of America’s workers save and invest for retirement in 401(k), profit sharing,
and other employer-sponsored defined contribution programs.

Since 1947, the members of the Profit Sharing/401k Council of America (PSCA) have been
the driving force for defined contribution plan innovation. Since 1947, PSCA has been the convincing voice in
Washington persuading policymakers to provide the tax and regulatory environment which encourages companies
to sponsor plans and employees to participate in them. Join us and benefit from our unbiased best practices informa-
tion. Join us and help strengthen the employer-sponsored defined contribution system so that your company and
your employees can continue to benefit from the greatest personal wealth building system ever created.

the workplace fits today’s reality.” PSCA’s services are tailored to meet the needs of both large and small
companies with members ranging in size from Fortune 100 firms to small, entrepreneurial businesses.

                                                                     — Silvia Frank, Trinity Health; Novi, Mich.

Public Impact
PSCA works full-time with policymakers to ensure that the regulatory framework governing 401(k) and
other employer-sponsored defined contribution programs is favorable to plan formation, plan contribution
levels are significant, and plans continue to receive favorable tax treatment. PSCA is successful because it
provides policymakers with creditable unbiased information and because it has helped create a public atmos-
phere supporting plan formation and participation. PSCA’s work with the media and its role as a national
spokes-group for the employer-sponsored defined contribution system is vital to its continuing expansion.
Research and Benchmarking

PSCA is dedicated to providing its members with accurate and unbiased research about the defined contri-
bution industry. PSCA’s surveys are used by companies to provide benchmarks for their plans and by the
government as a resource for public policy decisions. PSCA’s research and benchmarking services include:

    Annual Survey
The PSCA Annual Survey of Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plans is the
leading research publication in the industry. The annual survey
report is the most comprehensive source for unbiased information
on current practices and trends. PSCA’s annual survey reports on
the previous year’s plan year experience of more than 1,000 plans
with more than six million participants and more than $500 billion
in plan assets. Plans represented in the survey are diverse, repre-
senting companies of all sizes and regions across the United States.
The survey covers a wide variety of topics relevant to plan spon-
sors and the industry at large, including data on participation rates,
catch-up contributions, company contributions, asset allocation,
investment options, company stock, professional management,
investment advice, automatic enrollment, and more.

    Defined Contribution Plan Comparative Analysis
PSCA member companies that complete our Annual Survey questionnaire will receive a customized
report that benchmarks their plan data against data from this year’s annual survey. This free customized
benchmarking report will contain analysis not available in the published results. This report is especially
valuable not only in helping you compare your plan with that of similar organizations, but also in
evaluating differences. This information is also useful as you consider whether or not to make changes
to your plan. This is especially important in light of recent and ongoing legislative and regulatory
changes and the increased scrutiny defined contribution plan sponsors are experiencing.

    Mini-Surveys
    Throughout the year PSCA
    conducts a series of mini-
    surveys. These surveys focus
on a specific topic, such as
    Roth 401(k) or defined con-
    tribution plan eligibility.
    Also, PSCA will conduct
surveys at the request of PSCA members. If there is a particular topic you are interested in, contact
PSCA and we will conduct the survey and have the results to you quickly!
Washington Representation and
Media Outreach
PSCA is your direct connection to Washington, D.C. events and developments affecting profit sharing and
401(k) plans. As a PSCA member, you will also have personalized telephone and e-mail access to PSCA’s
Washington office. PSCA, with the support of its members, has long been successful in working with legisla-
tors in Washington to create a regulatory environment conducive to the promotion and success of employer-
sponsored defined contribution plans. Most recently, PSCA was instrumental in the passage of the Pension
Protection Act of 2006 and EGTRRA permanency. Membership with PSCA allows you to influence policy
and change in Washington.

    PSCA’s Executive Report
PSCA members receive this monthly legislative newsletter via e-mail. The PSCA Executive Report pro-
vides an informative and concise overview of the latest legal and legislative updates so you can stay on
top of all the latest news affecting profit sharing and 401(k) plans.

    Media Outreach
PSCA maintains a strong presence in the media in order to promote the spread of complete, accurate,
and balanced information about employer-sponsored defined contribution plans to the public. Each year,
PSCA representatives spend countless hours speaking with reporters, writers, and other members of the
media to actively promote the benefits of profit sharing and 401(k) plans. To generate as much media
coverage as possible, PSCA provides an average of at least three interviews a day to media outlets on the
local, state, and national level. PSCA is quoted somewhere in the media at least once a day. Hundreds of
newspaper and television programs — including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Chicago Tribune,
USA Today, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, and CNN — have quoted PSCA representatives.

    Press Releases/Advertorials
PSCA issues press releases to educate the
    media about important defined contribution-
related issues. PSCA has also published
“advertorials,” such as the one illustrated to
the right, in the Wall Street Journal and Role
Call, a newspaper serving Capitol Hill. These
advertorials promote the advantages of par-
ticipating in a profit sharing or 401(k) plan as
well as addressing how the defined contribu-
    tion system benefits America.

Example of a PSCA advertorial that
                     has appeared in national publications.
Conferences and Professional Development

Throughout the year, PSCA hosts several conferences and training events. These always highly-rated events
are designed specifically to provide interactive ways for our members to learn about best practices and the
latest issues affecting the defined contribution industry. PSCA conferences and events are also a great way to
meet with leading industry experts and network with your peers. PSCA conference attendees may also earn
CPE credits.

    The Midwest Regional Conference
This one-day conference in Chicago, Illinois, is a can’t miss event! Each spring,
our experts meet in the Windy City to represent plan sponsors and their par-
ticipants and to discuss the changing landscape of employer-provided retire-
ment plans. This event will provide expertise, timely topics, lively discussions,
and peer networking that consistently make this event the best one-day bene-
    fits conference of the year!

    The Public Policy Fly-In
One of PSCA’s most influential benefits is our representation of plan spon-
sors in Washington, D.C. This one-day event is an exciting opportunity to
meet with the experts and discuss the latest legislation affecting the defined
contribution industry. Attendees discuss timely topics, such as how the
Pension Protection Act of 2006 will affect your company’s plan. You’ll also
hear from federal lawmakers who are working to make defined contribution
plans a positive benefit for millions of Americans.

The National Profit Sharing and 401(k) Conference and Exhibition
This exciting conference is the premier benefits event of the year. The dynamic, three-day event covers
all aspects of defined contribution plans that a plan sponsor needs to know. Listen to leading industry
experts discuss topics such as plan design, communication, education, investments, and administration.
In addition to our variety of break-out sessions, PSCA offers inter-
esting and lively keynote speakers. This PSCA event is a great
opportunity to meet and network with the best benefits experts
in the country. In 2008, our National Conference is scheduled for
the Gaylord Opryland Resort Hotel and Convention Center in
Nashville, Tennessee, on September 16–19, 2008. You won’t want
to miss this opportunity to attend the most informative benefits
event of the year and, of course, have a little fun, too!
“The annual conference gives me an opportunity to network with some of the best in
the business; learn new trends, ideas, and statistics; and to hear what’s happening on
Capitol Hill. It keeps getting better every year.”
                                            — Emilie Denson, DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc.

Pre-Conference Workshops
Each year immediately before the Midwest Regional and National Conferences, PSCA hosts a half-day
pre-conference workshop. “Introduction to Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plans” is a course designed to
meet the needs of a variety of attendees. The nuts-and-bolts look at profit sharing and 401(k) plans is
a refreshing overview of the defined contribution industry aimed specifically at executives who are
looking for an update course or a new recruit who needs a basic overview before they start walking
and talking 401(k)s.

PSCA also offers a specialty pre-conference workshop at our National Conference. The topics for this
workshop vary and often focus on challenges for Tribal employers.

Web-Based Learning
PSCA offers a variety of Web-based distance learning
opportunities. These short, informative Web casts
break down the basics of profit sharing and 401(k)
plans. Our four-part basic training series provides an
overview of 401(k) and profit sharing plans and is
designed for human resource, employee benefit, trust,
compliance, reporting, and recordkeeping personnel.
This series is useful for new hires or as a refresher for anyone working with defined contribution
plans and is especially helpful for employees in multiple locations.

Teleconferences
As the landscape of the defined contribution industry continues to change, new and interesting topics
will arise. From time to time, PSCA will host informational teleconferences to address these topics.
The teleconferences are hosted by a panel of experts, and PSCA members have an opportunity to
ask their questions. Past teleconference topics have included the Pension Protection Act of 2006 and
Qualified Default Investment Alternatives. PSCA teleconferences are a great way to stay on top of new
and interesting defined contribution issues.

 401(k) Day
401(k) Day is an annual celebration spotlighting the importance of employer-sponsored profit sharing
and 401(k) plans. As retirement follows work, 401(k) Day is the Friday after Labor Day each
year, but you can celebrate any day that works best for your company. To make
implementing 401(k) Day at your company easy, PSCA creates a complete
library of ready-to-use materials that can be customized for your company.

 Signature Awards
Each year, PSCA proudly sponsors its Signature Awards competition. Signature Awards honor compa-
nies that display excellence in the areas of employee benefit plan communication and education.
The submissions are reviewed by a panel of judges that
includes distinguished business leaders and employee
benefits communication experts. Judges select the campaigns
that best convey creative solutions to communication challenges
and innovative approaches to education obstacles. The winners are
announced at PSCA’s annual National Conference and are profiled
in the annual Signature Awards Magazine. This magazine is available to members only and is a valuable
tool for learning how other professionals are administering successful plans.

Get Involved — Join a PSCA Committee

Once you become a member of PSCA, it’s easy to get involved. PSCA has a committee to fill almost every-
one’s interests. Joining a committee is an excellent way to gain professional experience and to network with
your peers.

    Legal and Legislative Committee
The Legal and Legislative (L&L) Committee’s primary mission is to provide the PSCA perspective
in Washington on sound retirement policy in both the regulatory and legislative areas. The L&L
Committee meets quarterly and has numerous sub-committee meetings. Participation on this commit-
tee will allow you to be directly involved in PSCA’s work in Washington and provides you with first-
hand knowledge of events and developments in Washington. The end result of our work is that the
American private retirement system — in particular, 401(k) plans — has never been stronger or more
influential. Most importantly, we are preserving the ability of each employee to retire in a dignified
    and financially secure fashion.

    Education and Communication Committee
The Education and Communication Committee (E&C) provides access to effective, high-quality
communication and financial education materials and ideas that are on the cutting edge. The goal
of the E&C Committee is to help plan sponsors communicate the benefits of plan participation to their
employees and improve participant use and appreciation for their plan. This committee manages the
Signature Awards competition and 401(k) Day.

    National Conference Planning Committee
PSCA’s National Conference is created for plan sponsors by plan sponsors. Participation on this com-
mittee helps ensure that topics covered at the premier conference of the year are topics important to
you. This committee meets annually to develop the agenda and events at each year’s conference.

    Research Committee
The Research Committee identifies areas of investigation and develops surveys to document current plan
practices and employee behaviors. In addition to serving as a valuable tool for plan sponsors, PSCA’s data
provides an important backbone of real-world experience to support PSCA’s legislative efforts.

“As always, my PSCA membership is worth so much more than I pay in dues.”
                                            — Dianna Sakacs, Washington Sports & Entertainment
“PSCA is like having a huge network of good friends who share ideas, provide assistance,
and are there to support you.”
                                                 — Karen Barnes, McDonald’s Corporation
