1.1 Overview
Residential construction, which had a share of 35.8% of the total construction value in 2009, was the second largest
market the industry. The market grew at a CAGR of 9.25% during the review period. The residential building
redevelopment category drove the growth in the past few years. In 2009, however, the growth slowed to 1.2% year-on-
year owing to the effect of recession on consumer confidence. Improvement in the consumer confidence by the end of
2009 is expected to result in recovery of the market.
WMI expects the residential construction market to witness a slower growth rate in the forecast period and record a
CAGR of 3.02%. Residential building redevelopment is expected to continue to be the growth driver in the forecast
period recording the highest CAGR of 3.85%. The largest category in the market, single family housing, is expected to
record a CAGR of 2.56%.
