 Airservices is the Aeronautical Authority
 Bureau and Airservices maintain an MOU
 Some meteorological services provided directly within
  Airservices facilities
 FIR-wide support from Canberra (NOCMET)
 Terminal focused support at Sydney Airport (SAMU)

 NOCMET was established in 2008
 Embedded in Airservices’ NOC, in Canberra
 NOCMET adds value to standard products
 Functions include:
   Weather Watch
   Weather Briefings
   Support for Crisis Management Centre
   Tailored & New Products and Services
   Input for Traffic Management Planning
   Close Liaison with Aviation Industry
   Point of contact
   Provide Training
   Increase Bureau’s knowledge of ATM
 Benefits include:
    Direct conduit of information: MET<=>ATM
    Targeted Weather Services
    MET more likely to be utilised in ATM

    Radar signature needs to large enough

    Lightning can occur at large distances
    Lightning is detected, not forecast
    Weaker lightning may not be detected
    Intense lightning may be further than displayed
    Lightning Sensor & Radar Outages
