Simply Broadband Ltd selects Allgon Microwave for WiMAX Backhaul
Stockholm Sweden, 29th November, 2005, Advantech AMT, the manufacturer of satellite and terrestrial wireless communication equipment with corporate headquarters in Montreal, Canada, is pleased to announce an agreement with Simply Broadband Ltd for the supply of Microwave Ethernet solutions through its Allgon Microwave AB subsidiary. Advantech AMT recently re-launched Allgon Microwave following a trade acquisition. Simply Broadband Ltd is currently launching Wireless Broadband network services in Uppsala, Sweden’s fourth largest metropolitan area. The network will cover the whole region with high-speed Mobile Internet access using a WiMAX based solution. Uppsala is the first network covered in Sweden by Simply Broadband Ltd, with more regions already in the planning stage. Under the agreement between Advantech AMT and Simply Broadband Ltd, Advantech’s Allgon Microwave AB, will be the exclusive supplier of Ethernet microwave radio communication solutions to Simply Broadband Ltd. This will include the unique Figure 1 - Allgon Microwave Allgon Microwave Ethernet LAN-100 product for the network backhaul, as well as a management solution and services for 0.3m antenna management implementation in the Uppsala project. “Though we know that many radio link products can be used initially, we are convinced that the Allgon Microwave true Ethernet solution offered by Advantech AMT, is the only one on the market to maintain low latency and flat throughput whilst we will put the network under load”, states Eric Ford, Strategy Director and Co-Founder of Simply Broadband Ltd. “Wireless mobile networks set the toughest demands on the quality of a backhaul in terms of jitter and latency. Our long experience with Ethernet backbones has made us implement unique Ethernet features in our Allgon Microwave solutions. In addition we offer built-in switch functionality and full Layer-2 quality of service. Thus, Allgon Microwave can offer the best solutions to meet the demands of a Wireless backbone”, says Markus Engman, Sales Manager for Allgon Microwave of Advantech AMT. Simply Broadband Ltd is using a WiMAX broadband access system, with Allgon Microwave links providing the backhaul to sites where no fibre is available. The product’s internal network switch significantly reduces the need for additional external equipment at so-called tail sites.
