					Converting Files to PDF Using Adobe Acrobat 8.0
Objective 1: Convert Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to PDF.
Method 1
Use the Acrobat toolbar to convert Microsoft Office files of PDF.

To Convert to PDF using the Acrobat Toolbar
      1. Open your Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file.
       2. On the Acrobat                       Toolbar click the Convert to Adobe PDF button       .




       3. Choose a location for saving this file and give the file a name. Then click Save.
       4. The conversion process may take a few minutes. When complete the newly created PDF file will
       open inside of Adobe Acrobat for you to make further changes such as adding book marks.

Method 2
Use the Print Command to convert Microsoft Office files of PDF.

To Convert to PDF using the Print Command
      1. Open your Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file.
      2. Click File on the Menu bar then click Print.

       3. In the Printer section, click the Name drop down list and select Adobe PDF.
       4. Click OK.
       5. Choose a location for saving this file and give the file a name. Then click Save.
       6. The conversion process may take a few minutes. When complete the newly created PDF file will
       open inside of Adobe Acrobat for you to make further changes such as adding book marks.


Objective 2: Convert Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to PDF and block printing
of the PDF file.

To Convert to PDF and Block Printing
      1. Open your Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file.
      2. Click Adobe PDF button on menu bar to convert.
      3. Then click Secure on Menu bar.
      4. Select Show Security Properties, then if necessary click Security tab.




       5. At the Security Method window click downward arrow and select Password Security.
       6. Select Restrict editing and printing of the document.
       7. In the Change Permissions Password box, enter a password for editing the document.
       8. Select None from the Printing Allowed drop down list.
       9. Click OK.


Objective 3: Convert Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to PDF and block copy of
text from the PDF file.

To Convert to PDF and Block the Copying of Text
      1. Open your Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file.
      2. Click Adobe PDF button on menu bar to convert.
      3. Then click Secure on menu bar.
      4. Select Show Security Properties, then if necessary click Security tab.

       5. At the Security Method window click downward arrow and select Password Security.
       5. Select Restrict editing and printing of the document.

       7. Deselect the Enable copying of text, images, and other contents check box.
       8. Click OK.


Objective 4: Block the printing of a PDF file that has already been converted.
To Block the Printing of a PDF File
       1. Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat 8.0.
       2. Click Secure on the Menu bar, and then select Manage Security Policies.
       3. At the Security tab click the downward arrow next to Security method.

       4. Select Password Encrypt from the Name list.
       5. Then click the Apply to Document.




       6. Select the Restrict editing and printing of the document.
       7. In the Change Permissions Password box, enter a password for editing the document.
       8. Select None from the Printing Allowed drop down list.

       10. Save your changes to the PDF file.


Objective 5: Block the copying of text in a PDF file that has already been converted.
To Block the Copying of Text in a PDF File
       1. Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat 8.0.
       2. Click Secure on the Menu bar, and then select Manage Security Policies.

Objective 6: Create and edit bookmarks in a PDF file that has already been converted.
To Create Bookmarks in a PDF File
      1. Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat 8.0.
      2. Right click the place in the file where you want to create a bookmark.




       3. Click Add Bookmark.
       4. Enter a name for the bookmark in the bookmark pane on the left side then press Enter.
       5. Repeat 2-4 for all bookmarks in the file.

 To Delete Bookmarks in a PDF File
      1. Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat 8.0.

       2. Click the Bookmarks icon             then press and hold down Shift while clicking the bookmarks
       you want to delete.

       3. Click the Delete selected bookmarks button             at the top of the bookmarks pane.


To Rename Bookmarks in a PDF File
      1. Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat 8.0.

       2. Click the Bookmarks icon           Click the bookmark you want to rename.
       3. Then click the Options button at the top of the bookmarks pane.




       4. Click Rename Bookmark.
       5. Edit the name and press Enter.



Objective 7: Touch up or edit text in a PDF file that has already been converted.
To Edit Text in a PDF File
       1. Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat 8.0.
       2. Click Tools on the menu bar then point to Advanced Editing.

       3. From Advanced Editing click the Touchup Text Tool button            .
       4. Use your mouse to highlight text and then edit the text.

Objective 8:     Set up Document Properties.

Setting up document properties will allow you to control how your document looks when it is opened up.
For instance, you can set the properties to have the bookmark pane visible when the document opens, you
can set the page magnification, and even change which page of the document opens first.

To Change the Default Initial View for your Document
   1. In Adobe Acrobat 8.0 click File on the
      Menu bar.
   2. Then click Properties.
   3. From the Properties window click the
      Initial View tab.
   4. Click the Navigation tab drop down list
      and select Bookmarks Panel and Page.
   5. Click the Magnification drop down list
      and select Fit Width. This will ensure that
      users do not have to scroll horizontally to
      view the document.
   6. In the Open to section enter a Page
      number in the text box to force the
      document to open to a page other than
      page 1.
   7. Click OK.
   8. Then Save and close the document.
   9. Open the document to see the changes.
