FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Neville Public Museum of Brown County Receives Highest National
Recognition: Awarded Re-Accreditation from the American
Association of Museums
Green Bay, WI—August 28, 2008. The Neville Public Museum of Brown
County has again achieved accreditation by the American Association of
Museums (AAM), the highest national recognition for a museum. To
celebrate this achievement, the Neville Public Museum will hold a press
conference on Wednesday, September 3 at 3 p.m. Brown County Executive
Tom Hinz and Mayor Jim Schmitt will be in attendance.
Accreditation signifies excellence to the museum community, governments,
funders, outside agencies, and the museum-going public. The Neville Public
Museum was initially accredited in 1972. All museums must undergo a re-
accreditation review at least every ten years to maintain accredited status.
Of the nation’s nearly 17,500 museums, about 775 are currently accredited.
The Neville Public Museum is 1 of only 18 museums accredited in Wisconsin.
AAM Accreditation brings national recognition to a museum for its
commitment to excellence, accountability, high professional standards, and
continued institutional improvement. Director Gene Umberger greatly
appreciates the efforts of the museum staff and members of the Neville
Public Museum Foundation and Governing Boards, all of whom contributed in
various ways in the intensive effort to attain this distinguished honor.
